The hell's wrong with you? I didn't say that it sucked.

    It just looks horribly smudged.

Hey Pete. The tremolo is def. original. Is the back neck plate straight or does it have an angle to it? Shoot a pic if you can.

Also. i have used the ESP Tech info email before as well as a 1800 number and had some good results dating firebirds made by ESP. If I can find the number I will pass it along to you.

        From ESP Site:

ESP maintains limited production records. If you would like to send us the following information, we will do our best to help you with your request.Send an e-mail to techinfo including serial number, description, & pictures (make sure to include close-up shots of headstock front & back, back of neck plate & top of body) to help with the dating process. We cannot guarantee that we will be able to date your instrument, but we will at least try and help! (Please note: If you do not send pictures, chances are we will not be able to assist you with your request.)

I kinda thought that using the term 'that thing' might be a little derogatory.

Here, let's try it in a sentence, see if you agree:

You're out with your girlfriend. Someone comments. "hey, what's that thing you're holding hands with?"

Perhaps in your world 'that thing' is a laudatory comment, not so much in mine. Besides, if I can generate some drama in this thread, I'll get more eyes on it as I mentioned earlier.

back neck plate is straight, has a SN stamped in it. Fellow forumite mr426 was correct regarding the model and year. (it's a 1984 mirage deluxe) I double checked his info by looking it up in a 1984 ESP catalog. I know what it is, just have zero idea on the value. It is a little weird since it has a mahogany body though.

Cool. Glad you got your info then. The value of that particular tremolo and HS isn't super desireable IMO but being that it is a one piece mahogany body ya never know... Chuck it up on ebay and set a high reserve...

The key difference is that your girlfriend isn't an inanimate object.

'Thing', as far as I'm concerned, describes most inanimate objects people don't particularly have a gigantic attachment to. I'd use it as a descriptor for anything from a $90 Squier to a $6000 PRS.

I'd hope that someone who uses big words like 'descriptor' might have a wider vocabulary than to call most inanimate objects 'things' - but I'm sure if a capacity for knowledge is limited to begin with, some allowances need to be made. Thanks for the explanation, it makes perfect sense to me. Rock on with your verbally crippled self!

Are you done overreacting and being passive-aggressive yet, or are you normally this bitchy?

What the hell did you want me to call it anyway? Your Holiest Of The Holiest Guitar That Of Which Is Not To Be Maligned? Christ.

Maybe you shouldn't have said anything at all. Or maybe you should have read his post before yours.

Hmm, your vocabulary is improving, but repeating the same word (holiest twice) is showing the brain overheating again. You do get props for using capitalization that way though, reminds me of a scene from Rain Man. Quite entertaining, in a car wreck sort of way.

Now go rest that big chess club brain of yours before it burns up!

Oh, and to answer your question - it's a guitar. I'd advise writing it down on a card with an illustration, so when you encounter another guitar you can identify it as such. After a few dozen positive IDs, it should stick in that slope browed, drive in movie theater shaped skull where your pea-sized brain rattles and rolls in. Be sure though and have a trusted adult confirm your guitar sightings.

                                Interesting sales tactic.

Do you know what you want for the ESP?
