Sure, I agree. But, as a personal preference which maybe will sound kinda dumb, I prefer to get the "original" shapes in the original brands. Like, If I want an explorer shape, I'd get a Gibson Explorer. Or, if I want a RR shape, I'd get a Jackson.
From Carvin, I like the DC400 Neckthrough active guitar. It "looks" like a strat but it adds some very original things that will make you look at it and say "oh, it's a Carvin".

And to me I like the ct body shape better. AFWIW I had a CT before and took it to my friends who works at Ernie Ball and sets up guitars for lots of their artists and when compared to his 2 PRS a Custom and a McCarty the CT6 was easily their equal. And these are owned by a guy who works on Petrucci, Vinnie Moore, and Morses guitars Then when you consider that a Custom 22 with a lame top goes for 3 grand anda Carvin spec'd how I want was 1600 there was no comparison in my mind. The 1400 you save will buy a killer amp, or another guitar or whatever. To me the PRS name is not worth 1400 bucks.
That DC400 looks original to me, I'd go with that if I were gettin' a Carvin. Seems really nice.
