  • Your stage set up.

Let's talk about what we use and how we use it.

My stage set up is very simple, my philosofy is that you don't need an elaborate system to get a killer sound.

For amps; I use Marshall MG series heads and cabs for amplification because they are easy to get, durable and the sound really good.

For effects I use a Boss Me30 set on "Manual" so I can use it as six pedals, I never use the presets. I usually plug it straight into my amp, I never use the effects loop.

What guitars are concerned, my main ones are the tan SG, the Red Gibson SG and the black and gold ESP viper. All of them set up with D'Addario XL 011-046 strings (With the exception of the Viper which has a 012-056 XL set because it's tuned down to D)

I use "Yellow cab" cables and Dunlop Tortex 1:14 plectrums.

That's my stage set up, what is yours?

              rack:

              furman power conditioner
behringer rack tuner (works great for 59.00!!)
              digitech studio quad effects unit
              rocktron HUSH super c II

              amps (main rig):

rivera S120 (routed in a wet/dry setup: effects are on the left channel and the dry signal is on the right)

              into these cabs:

              (left side) - rivera c112 w/ EVM12L
              (right side) - rivera c112 w/EVM12L
rivera c210 stereo cab w/ celestion 10s(one 10" to the left channel, one 10" to the right channel)

              when i play smaller venues i use a rivera m100 combo w/ EVM12L

when i play larger venues i add a rivera m100 head into a mesa recto 2x12 loaded with one EVM12L and a vintage blackshadow speaker. it gets slaved from the dry channel of the s120.

              guitars:

whatever i feel like playing, but more often than not it is either an SL-1 or a PC-1.

              pedals:

              MXR evh phase 90
              VOX wah
              rocktron midi exchange controller.
              GEAR:

some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!

some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!

              and finally....

i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

For gigs, I use mostly pedals into power amps, so I mix and match from the gear below.

                Pedalboard including:
                - Peavey ProComm UHF wireless
                - Rocktek tuner pedal
                - ART Xtreme distortion
                - ART Tube EQ
                - Rocktron Hush
                - Boss DD-2

                - OR -

                - Peavey ProComm UHF wireless
                - Boss ME-50

From there, it's either a Peavey Classic 60 or Classic 50/50 tube power amp into a Jackson 412S or Peavey 212MC cab. For guitars, I go with two Jacksons (main and backup), either a Dinky or Soloist of some kind.

                  Guitars:

                  1995 Gibson Les Paul Classic
                  2000 Gibson Flying V
                  1987 Charvel Model 4

                  Amp:

                  Marshall JCM2000 50W DSL & 4x12

                  Effects:

                  Boss CE5 Chorus
                  Boss DD6 Delay
                  Mesa Boogie V-Twin preamp

Use the Boogie into the clean/crunch channel (green LED) of the Marshall to give 2 channels of clean + dirty, get a 3rd lead channel by switching everything out and straight into the Marshall on the Lead channel (red LED).

Wow, I'm wondering where Strat God is playing two full stacks and the rest of that gear onstage.

                        My live setup right now:

One of these guitars (I take em all to gigs because we play in several different tunings)

                        '06 Eric Johnson Sig strat
'96 PRS Cu22 semi hollow Quilt 10 top
                        '99 Ibanez Jem 77FP
                        Warmoth parts strat
'04 Peavey Wolfgang special FM (green!)

                        into: Sennheiser EW100 series wireless
                        Crybaby Classic Fasel Wah
'brown sound in a box' pedal
TS9 modded by me with a mutation of a Landgraff overdrive

TC Electronics G-Major, controlled by Rocktron Midimate

Randall RM100 head (Ultra, Recto, Brown modules)
Marshall JCM800 slant cab loaded with 75 watt celestions
Sm57 and Sennheiser 609 silver, miked on seperate cones and mixed to mono at board. SM57 gets high end and presence, 609 gets lows and punch. I like blending them better than EQing one mic at the board.

I have several more MTS modules for the randall coming in, and an RM4 rackmount head (4 channels of MTS goodness) and the matching Randall RT50 power amp that allows you to switch channels on the power amp. Only other thing I might do is start taking an open back 2x12 and run my cleans and some overdrives into it and some into the marshall.

                        Pete

No I don't need to use the interface. The only drawback is not being able to footswitch the contour and rough/smooth functions but to me thats no big deal. You just hook the G System to the head with a 4 cable TRS snake and 2 guitar cables. That handles the switching and will put stuff like the compressor in front of the amp and other effects to the loop. I got rid of my Engl footswitch and stomping on one button on the G System switches effects on the G System and the amp channel. It's pretty easy to program as well. You just go into the presets individually and change the codes and figure out which codes correspond to any of the 4 amp channels. I think it's well worth it to have it basically do it all. Plus it has switchable loops for any of pedals AND it is a power supply for your pedals.
