WRT to sustain, how much do you need? Do your other guitars not cut it, even when playing through a cranked amp? You just seem really obsessed about it. I remember a while back when you were so concerned about lack of mass at the neck joint on sculpted-heel designs and how it would hurt sustain. I just think a lot of that becomes moot once you plug the thing in and turn up, at least in my experience with guitars of decent quality. Not bashing, just curious as to where the concern comes from.
Always looking for the next best thing you know like a lot of us who have GAS. The Jacksons I have now are awesome. But I am always looking for something that my have a different neck feel or different tone etc...
Seriously doubt I will find anything that is on par with my Custom Shop Jackson but you never know.
I definitely am going to order a 24 fret Suhr when they come out next year and a new model not yet produced by USMasters when they come out.
Hell I would order an Ibanez because of the upper fret access and the fact that they make beutiful guitars. But I have yet to find one that has the sustain and tone of a good American made guitar because of their neck design.
I go to the forums and even the owners who have the 8670 - top of the line J Custom stuff are putting stuff like ESP arming adjusters and other systems in them for increased sustain and tone.
I put an ESP arming adjuster in my Custom Jackson and the sound did not change one bit because it sounds just as good without it.
I am happened to hear that these Abel Axe guitars had tone and sustain that no other solid body could match. And I looked at all the reviews.
I got emails from the guys on ebay selling them also. They said the clean sound was sort of tinty and not the best. But that the sustain was everthing it claimed to be.
Then I spoke with the builder who said he was putting mahogany necks on them and they sounded warmer. But $3700 is too much money to take a chance on.

What's more nuts? $3,700 for that or $6,000 for some PRS with fancy inlays? I think it's cool, but it's so different that it might stick in some peoples' craws.
I am GASSING - shit! I heard about these Abel Axes - suppose to have sustain that no other guitar can touch with killer tone.
I spoke with the guy the other day and they are building them better than ever. I can get 24 frets, Kahler trem and whatever pups.
They have built them now with mahogany necks which give them a warmer sound than the old maple neck ones. Gives them more range on the low end without losing highs. And I can get a maple fingerboard. And the new bodies are suppose to be more comfy than the old ones.
They will paint them anyway you want.
Every and I mean every account of the old guitars I have read say they have never heard anything like the sound of this guitar in any solid body guitar ever built. Unbelievable sustain and tone. Even the copy cat of this guitar - the Rogue Aluminator was suppose to be great.
Unmatched upper fret access for a bolt on guitar because there is no huge block of wood at the neck - just a thin aluminum piece coming from the body. I have seen the back of the necks and they are killer.
Custom price - $3700 ! I could sell enough stuff to come up with about $1700 so I would have to come up with $2K cash - less than the cost of most custom guitars out there. Still a lot of money though.
I am just not sure if the sound is actually what everyone claims without hearing one in person - or if the reviews I have read are more marketing than an honest review.
OK talk me out of it guys.
Does he have any RETURN Policy? What if you get it, and within
20 minutes it does not impress? I would ask. If you have 10 days or
something, and it DOES NOT LOOK ANYTHING LIKE THIS ONE! Then
yeah, go for it!
I have played extensively an Abel Axe with the new hole pattern like the one in your pic and yes, the sustain is exceptional, with no dead spots.
Tone-wise instead it did not impress me at all: it came with passive pickups (don't know what brand) and the tone was really bright, both clean and distorted.
A year later, that same guitar was for sale at the Dallas guitar show for $ 1,200 but nobody bought it.

I suspected the tone was not great. Have talked to a couple other owners that have said the same thing. OK distorted but not great tone.
