  • The Duck by Grassroots

Grassroots is a spinoff of ESP. They are MIK and sometimes sold as LTD in the US. Following Fett's frugal examples I found this copy of an Yngwie Duck on Yahoo for under $200 shipped. I didn't realize that the seller is a store and it turns out it is brand new totally mint. These usually go right around $350ish plus tax. It needs a better setup but plays OK as it is now. Fully scalloped board with tall skinny frets is what attracted me, it's really well done and the fret job is great to boot. Clipped and filled no tangs sticking out. Alder body, the entire route is shielded.

I need to find a Donald sticker for the HS.

Only gripes so far is the pickups, sound ok but terribly weak and the route is a SSS, not an HSS as I hoped.

Specs, scroll all the way to the bottom http://www.espguitars.co.jp/grassroots/index.html

As far as I know Grassroots is MIJ for Japan circulation, much the same as Edwards, Navigator, etc.

I guess Grassroots has stepped up the quality ten-fold in the last ten years, because the ones I saw around here back in high school (basically just the Metallica knock-offs) were awful. Back then they had really sloppy workmanship, but that Yngwie looks great for the money!

thats not a duck copy that's a ritchie blackmore copy (rosewood board)
and for the donald sticker you should do what I did, just print out a picture of donald and glue it on the headstock

Well, there are Yngwie models with rosewood fretboards, if I remember correctly... but I guess it isn´t a replica of the famed Duck in particular.

yes the original duck has a maple board, but the YJM strats come in rosewood with the small headstock also. which this is more of a copy of. http://www.fender.com/products/searc...tno=0107112841

i just googled some blackmore pics, it looks like the Sig strats came with black pickups and knobs with the large HS. otherwise it came back with hundreds of pics of him playing all kinds of strats.

Actually I forgot about that. The store does not have a link, their online sales are handled through Yahoo auctions. Here is the username http://openuser.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/user/k123_99_99
