  • Good electric-acoustic guitar?

    Hello

I'm looking to buy an acoustic-electric guitar. I wanna be able to record with it and play live as well.

    My budget is 500-600 bucks.

I wanted to know, besides the price frame, which is the most known acoustic-electric brand in the market? Like, from what I know, if I wanted to get a good quality dreadnaught (I dunno if it's written correctly?) acoustic I would get a Martin. If I want a good classical guitar I'd probably get some Spanish made guitar. Etc. What's the "known" AE guitar?

I was looking into Ovations, they look comfortable in shape, but I dunno if they are good sounding or loud on their won (acoustic only).

Let me know any opinions so I get a better idea please

    thanx!

I have an Ovation Pinnacle and it's great when you plug it in. Nice, full sound. But since it has a smaller bowl, it has a quieter sound than a normal acoustic, which I don't mind. If you're lookin at Ovations though, you might want to check out the CC48-RRYB. It's got a deeper bowl than the Pinnacle, and it's E/A.
    My Main Rig:
    '87 Charvel Model 4A
    Peavey KB100 amp
    Ibanez SM7 Smashbox

    Others:
    '92 Gibson Les Paul Custom
    '05 Ibanez RG320FM
    '86 Ovation Pinnacle
    '98 Synsonics Custom Strat
    '89 Kramer 700ST Bass

The nicest (best playing and best sounding) acoutsic/electric I've ever owned/played was a Gibson Chet Akins model.

Not only did it play great and sound awesome, but I never had to worry about it feeding back live.
        A HUGE plus!

completely of the price range, good job......... ibanez A/E are really good for the money, i expect a $600 one should be really good.
"slappy, slappy" bill sings, happily, as he dick slaps random people on the streets of Cleveland.

Sorry dude, I didn't see you posted a price range.

In that case I'd recommend an Epi Chet Akins model.
Any acoustic/electric with a soundhole is likely to cause feedback when played live.

Of course, if you don't play live ... this won't be an issue.
But if you do, this should be a serious consideration.

              +1 on the Ibanez idea.
I just bought a Jumbo Artwood series and couldn't be happier.
The place I bought it from has another one left.

What about Ovation? Isn't it supposed to be "the standard acoustic-electric" ? At least that's what they say around here...

Don't forget the Charvel 625C acoustic electric. They can be had on ebay for under $250.00 with hard case. Yeah, they were made in Korea, but they are actually pretty nice guitars. Built in three band EQ, what more do you need?

                  plus they are cheap.

I prefer the Yamaha APX series my self.
Nice, compact body with great tone.

What about the cheaper Martins? Like the DX1E ? Are they total crap or are they "ok", say, compared to a similar priced Ovation or Yamaha? Are they made in Korea or something ?

Ovation Celebrity series...you should be able to get the wooden "wings"
epolettes"... and a nice preamp/tuner for around $600. Ovations sound
                        great live imo

My options are between: Ovation, Carvin or Ibanez. for about 600 bucks.

                            What would you choose?

Of the three, I would take the Ovation.
