ESP EC-1000 or JACKSON DK2M?

Points for and against...

for the LTD tonepros emgs, and locking tuners in an lp style getup setneck mahogany rosewood with mahogany body and maple cap....

Jackson Duncans, Maple fretboard binding Floyd for divebombs...

Many more finish options for the jackson, ESPs are fairly limited 3 colour choices....

The most important things to decide are what kind of guitar do you want a more modern wider necked guitar which is more aimed at the shred/hairmetal crowd, or a more metalcore gutiar that will be easier to drop tune.

Bear in mind the tuners need to be bored wider if they are sperzals apparently getting a 46 e in there is abit of a tight fit...

Well put. Nice comparison. Couple more things -

1. You can get the LTD with Duncans - JB/'59 zebra set with certain finishes. EMG's with the rest, but unfortunately your stuck depending on the finish.
2. LTD - 5 colors actually. Glass black, Matte Black, Vintage (matte) Sunburst, Cherry, and White. Jackson DK2M - 4 colors.
3. LTD have binding on body, neck, and headstock.
4. Sperzels kill, but you have a point on using heavy strings.
5. Jackson is a much brighter guitar - sprinkle to taste...
6. Black hardware - again a taste thing, but I like black better. I'll admit it can look funny on an LP style guitar though. Just as I don't care for chrome on Jacksons.
7. Korea build vs. Japan build. With that said, the high end LTD's have quality on par with (dare I say better??) with Japanese Jacksons.
8. Cost - tip of the cap to Jackson here. However, we're not necessarily comparing apples to apples.

Neither of them are Pacifica's though, so why do I care anyway??

o0o0o0o ... Big dilemma. I'd say Jackson, cuz you know ... JCF and all ... but the ESP/LTD does intrigue me.

I do believe the DK2M Has lets count four solid adn metallic finishes black white, cobalt blue, inferno red, then three trans finishes trans black, trans blue, and trans red, and the swirls...Crimson and Eiree dess swirl...

That makes 9 different finishes, including the coolest dk2m colour scheme snow white IMO....

However EDS looks wicked on this and the DK2T

See I reckon we need a DK2TM that would be ace....

Still the floyd vs tonepros, I believe the 1k LTD Range used to have tonepros hardware.....

I played a Jackson DK2M(the "special" version with the one bridge pickup and ghost flames...red or w/e.)and it was a great guitar. I would likely prefer the dk2m over that one though, for the extra pickup.
Owned all ESP's I played...almost all of them.

One of my friends bought an EC-1000 and brought it to school today. Great guitar! It's actually really thin. I figured it would be Les Paul thick, but it was really light.

I would for sure go with the ESP. Higher quality than the DK2M and not much more expensive. I was really disappointed in the DK2M's. They feel extremely cheap to me.

Have you played any of the higher end LTD's lately? I am NOT an ESP/LTD guy by any stretch, but I have an EC-1000 that's top notch in terms of quality, and I've played a number of LTD guitars lately (the Viper 400 comes to mind) that have great hardware, and impeccable fit & finish when compared to other guitars in the price range. They really opened my eyes. They aren't ESP's, but they are *nearly* as good when you get into their more "deluxe" models. I have found no quality issues in any of them.

Me too. In fact, I never thought I was an ESP guy until I realized that many of the parts that were used to build my Kramers were ESP...and I only found that out a couple of years ago. Surely the Korean made LTDs wouldn't match up...oh well, I had to have my eyes opened once more...I bought an LTD EC400 AT with the Seymour Duncan JB and '59 and it was a mind blower...particularly because I bought it on the used market although it looked like it could have come straight from a store. After that worked out so well I decided to try another...the LTD EC 400 with EMGs. Ok...then an H-1000. Suffice to say that it was a learning experience regarding the lengths Korean production has come in recent history.
I think that for the most part the LTD 400 series and up stand up with guitars up to and including most everything in the $1000-$1200 range. That's one person's ears' and hands' experience anyway.

I have tried the 85. Active pick-ups sound too compressed to me.

Try it again in 18v configuration. ...plenty of headroom.

EMGs are so much better in 18v configuration.

I decided to keep mine. I put it head to head with another guitar I "had to have" and it won out. It's really a keeper. I just wish GAS didn't get so sever sometimes...
