Many people have shredded on a Les Paul through the years.

Sykes, Schon, Aldrich, Wylde, Rhoads, DiMeola, Lukather, Moore, Campbell... I don´t think anyone is questioning the shredibility of a LP these days!

I would never say that you can't shred on a Les Paul, but clearly something like a Jackson Soloist lends better toward shredding. The low action and sweet tone of the Les Paul are certainly positives, but the upper fret access is horrendous!! You can't go past the 15th fret without having to put your hand in an awkward position.

Also, wearing your guitar higher makes it easier to shred. You can wear a Soloist fairly high and still look metal, but the same can't be said for a Les Paul.

That said, John Sykes and early Zak Wylde are some of my favorite shredders.
