my V needs to see the guitar surgeon for a goofy pot and a switch problem, so I figured I'd take the rs guitarworks upgrade kit plunge and see how that sounds. all new high quality electronics and switches. I wouldn't do it if it didn't need repair, but if it does, why not?

we'll see if the fuss is worth it.

I hope you like the kit I swear by them.My best sounding guitar is a 93 fusion H-H mahogony with an rs kit and two early USA J-50 n&b pickups. The guitar is beat to hell but has such huge tone.
Every L.P. I get gets the kit treatment no exceptions.Just a wonderful product IMO.
It will change the dynamics of your guitar so some tweaking will be needed.
You will notice the pickups have more punch.
If you have any questions after you install the kit just shoot me a P.M.and I'll try to help you thru the tweaking process if you need it.
    Really? well screw Mark Twain.

What kind of tweaking would that be?

Not to hijack this thread but do you have pics of the fusion? I am curious about it.

The kits are such a big improvement from the stock electronics you will need to adj the pickups to where they sound best to you.The pickups will sound different with the kit installed,in a good way. More harmonics, more string definition.I know that sounds hoaky but once the cap "burns" in the pickups will "open" up and come to life.

Thats been my experience Tim, laugh if you want.I've lost count of how many average and sub average sounding guitars I've installed the kits in and all have huge improvements in tone.
If you don't follow the wiring diagram to the "T" your kit may not perform the way it should.
Dude I don't get paid to say this shit and I don't dish out B.S. thank you.

I think that sums up the JCF experience!

well, like I said, we'll see. I've got a JB in the bridge right now and it's not sounding like I want. I know the wiring needs a bit of work and we all know how Gibson likely put average to below avg quality wiring in it.

so I'll be a test case I guess to see how this electronics upgrade kit actually works.

I've got to clean the fb and polish the frets with steel wool and then when the rs kit gets here it's off for the surgery.

Well the good thing here is you know how it sounds now. With the upgrade kit lets us know what you think fair enough?

The RS Kits are worth every penny if you use your volume and tone knobs to make music with, rather that just using them as rotary kill switches. The kits give you true audio taper and do open up the sound of your p-ups. The RS kit will also make you a better person and make you love Jesus more.

I was laughing at your capacitor "burn" claim (note that I did not quote your whole post - that was on purpose).

I don't doubt the RS kits are good. They're CTS pots, Switchcraft switches, and high quality capacitors. They're just overpriced is all. You can get all that stuff cheaper elsewhere.

skorb, wire the JB directly to the input jack if you want to find out what impact the existing wiring is having on your tone.

                              Tim,

Where can you get CTS pots with brass shafts? These pots that come in the kit are really heavy duty. Very much unlike the stock CTS pots. I haven't taken one of the RS's apart but they are very heavy duty. I have bag full's of the stock CTS pots. The stockers have an aluminum shaft from the looks of them. These RS pots are like the old Mil Spec. Switchcraft's that I used to get in the late 60's to early 70's.

Like El Kabong said, they are true audio taper and have a nice even transition. I don't think they have altered my tone though. They have a stiff feel to them (shaft to barrel), so they would be great for J/C players that keep hitting their Volume knobs.

Edit: I just saw that I said Tone and not Volume I meant hitting the volume on J/C guitars
