If your wanting something new I'd also suggest a CARVIN.
If your willing to do some research and have some patience there are always great bargains to be had in the used market (Ebay, Craigslist).
Zion, Godin, Hamer, and Robin to name a few.Currently at 78 guitars - Paul Reed Smith, Jackson, Robin, Washburn, Carvin, Peavey, U.S. Masters, G&L, Hamer, Godin, BC Rich, Yamaha, Fender, ESP, Kramer, Cort, Ibanez, Aria Pro & Charvel

I'm considering a Jackson DKMG...I played one at my local GC recently and was blown away with the feel. The EMG's were screaming also."Some days you're the dog, other days you're the hydrant." - on the back of the business card for Bella the Pomeranian

There, there guys..... You get what you pay for, I am a shop owner, I do guitar repairs everyday, and I have to say.... I always have the cheap guitars to work on.... Always! I rarely get a nice guitar in for repairs! I would stay Jackson, Charvel, ESP or even a Dean, but you should play them before buying.Shibs

I think you can get a good guitar for a reasonable price, especially with old Charvels. I'm not a big believer that anybody needs to spend a metric ton of cash to get a good, giggable guitar. But everybody has their priorities and price thresholds!
