Hey guys I have a Jackson DK2M, which I absolutely love. I don't want just one guitar. So I'm going to go for another one, preferably under $1000. The shit I want to play is in the field of Metallica, Megadeth, Iron Maiden. What guitars do you suggest so I know where to start when I go to the shop to play on some?

wow, i hate these threads, dude, go to a shop, pick up a guitar and plug it in to the same kind of amp you have.

    figure it out from there.

Gotta agree with kelly user. There are billions of guitars under $1000 that play fantastic and would be great for teh metal.

Only you can tell if you like a certain brand's neck style, or if this body shape is more comfortable for you to play, or if the pickups in the guitar will sound good through your amp. Honestly.

Since you love the DK2M, why not get another if you must have more than one guitar? Or any other Jackson? If you dig the strat shape, try out some other Dinky models, or maybe a Soloist. The SLSMG goes for under $1k I think.

What I do before I go shopping is play my existing guitar for 30-40 minutes so my hands get really warmed up. Then I can just pick up a guitar and almost immediately tell if I like it or not.

I assume by "guitars" you mean "guitar cases" and by "play well" you mean "hold $2000 guitars well"?!?

I have a varied set of guitars I acquired over the years. subsequently I can cop just about any sound/tone. get something different than what you have. get a Telecaster. get a Gibson Flying V. or a Jackson V.
the guitar players look damaged - they've been outcasts all their lives

Try a used RR - made for metal! Used Soloist isnt bad either. If you dont want C/J, I would look at a LTD series ESP neckthrough, while not up the the jacksons IMHO, not bad for what they are.

If you like the DK2M you can always grab one with EMG's in it for a different tone yet the feel will be very familiar.

My Carvin Bolt + was a hair under $1,100. Real Floyd and two humbuckers. It plays great...sorry, but I liked it far better than any DK2 I've tried.

If it was me I'd look for a Carvin.. Their custom orders are like 3 times cheaper than other companies, unbelievable value IMO. Ran guitars will do more or less anything to if I remembr correctly.
