Ed did an exact copy that he called the "Caligula". He owns two originals that he was able to get the specs from. I've tried to buy them but he wants pretty crazy money IMO (imagine that) and he will only sell one and not the pair.

It's cool that he got the EMG's out of the yellow one but what it really needs is an Anderson H2+ and single coil!

Rupe your Rands look awesome. I especially like the Vivian "Is This Love" Rand.

Here is a picture of mine.

Super cool guitars + thread! Does anyone know if Caparisons took their cue from Rand? You can definitely see the influence.

When you say "sold to Guitar Center", do you mean when it was new or at some point during its life. I'm 99% sure that I played that one at Sam Ash when I bought my purple one. I'm even more convinced that it is the same one because of the nut issue. It was my favorite looking one of the bunch at the store but it wouldn't tune up right so I passed on it. When it was on ebay, I recall the seller saying that he added the nut inside the Floyd nut to correct an intonation problem (I can't remember if he mentioned that during the auction or in a PM). It still has one of my favorite paint schemes though...awesome looking guitar. My buddy Rob owned that prepro at one point (as well as my Viv guitar and all three of the Florida guitars).

Rupe, my bad, Sam Ash it is then. And yes I bought it off of Rob. I used to hang with Rob back in high school. I'm in Media now.

According to the Wikipedia article for Caparison Guitars, Caparison is more Jackson-influenced: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caparison_guitars

Man, there's like a third of all the Rand pieces in existence owned by JCFers in this thread alone. Cornering the market, guys? Great history lesson and really ripping-looking guitars.

I guess that Rand must have sold his company and rights over to Ed Roman, check this out....

Looks like a Rand to me, but with a Roman logo.

Rand didn't sell anything. Ed simply started copying these as part of his "Abstract" line of guitars. He has been telling me for years that he can build a better version and I see he finally started trying to do it.

These two just arrived last week...they are no longer in South Florida!!! I'll try to get a group shot this weekend.

These both kick major ass. They are the second (pink) and third (yellow) best players behind my main purple one. They are also extremely light weight. My orig purple was the lightest of my 5 until these 2 showed up...now its number 3 out of the 7. I have never liked EMG's but they actually sound great through my live rig (rack system...they aren't so great going straight into a tube amp though).

Nice one, or should I say two, Rupe. You must have made him an offer he couldn't refuse.
