  • OK, I Finally Got a Eric Johnson Strat!

I know some of you guy's have one of these. I know, I've been reading the reviews since they came out in Jan. '05. I've been saving my pennies from my paper rout and finally saved up enough to get one. The reviews of this guitar are true. This is the Strat to have if you want Custom Shop quality, and a lower price and are putting your trusty Charvel or Jackson back in the rack to pick up a Strat. The neck makes this transition a piece of cake with it's 12" fretboard radius and full soft v backshape neck transitioning into the more rounded C down at the 12th fret. This one weighs in at 7.6 lbs. I think this is average for their reported weight. Mine has some interesting mineral streaks on the front of the Alder body. It's not your average looking transparent sunburst finish on the Alder. It's the first "figured" Alder I've ever seen. Some might not like it, but it's rare from what I have seen and it has been growing on me. Like most of the guitars I buy, I got this one sight inseen.

This guitar just sings, very resonant and very vocal. The EJ pickups are great and low output like the old ones. One great mod EJ did on these is each pickup has a tone adjustment. I don't really use the tone on my other guitars, but it's really useful on a Strat with single coils. You can dial in some really nice tones with the knobs!

The G & G Case is Really Nice as well!

Robert, I've owned lots of Strats and this one is very nice. Very vintage in tone, but with all the neat tweaks the tone meister ordered!

        Yes these are fantastic.

Everything a strat should be....nice lightweight & really resonant (they use a great piece of wood for the body)...great playing neck & the finish doesn't feel too thick & glossy...that great tone that you want from a strat....and the case is nice too.

Congratulations man, the EJ is one of the finest Strats in production.
I love mine, which BTW is a twin sister of yours.

I only noodled on one unplugged at a local store, in platinum blonde finish (I think thats what its called), and it felt fantastic with good tone even unplugged! Congrats, those are nice Strats!

How is is that each pickups has its own tona adjustment if there are just 3 knobs and one has to be for the volume?

One controls the neck pickup & one controls the middle & bridge pickups....so its not really a tone control for each pickup.....but this configuration works really well.

For a while now I have been feeling the need for a strat. I am really tempted to pick up on of these. I just can't decide on the color.

I couldn't decide on color either. I bought the two tone sunburst. It matches my '57 Fender Reissue P Bass. That candy red is nice. I may get one in candy red eventually. Other than that, I'm not picky with colors. Almost any color is fine with me.

Great score! These are some of the nicest pieces that Fender is making these days.

The burst is classic. I really like the white and black is always good with me. I have heard the candy red is nice, but it is probably my last choice. However, if I had the option and the red played and sounded the best I might do it. I need to play one of these...
