More strat porn

my new USA standard strat i bought today

great strat tone - i love the clean sounds on this, and the neck plays like butter. not so keen on the sound for heavier (80s) rock, but i may put a bridge humber in for added versitality and maybe some locking tuners



any tips for maintaing tuning stability with mild trem use?

I kept my non - locking trems stable by being careful of how much string was on the posts (no overlaps) and by using a 2B pencil to scribble in the nut slots (graphite). I set the spring tension a little tighter too and removed the two string retainer trees, as that seemed to help also. I used to dive bomb like Torme on speed, no tuning problems.

I have had very good results using Nut Sauce brand lubricant.
I use a piece of a trebble string, say .010, and spread some Sauce on the string slots.
Gotta tell ya the stuff works. That is the contact and possible sticking point for the strings. They need to be able to slide back and forth freely.

Pencil lead does work, but if not done carefully it dirties up light colored nuts.

ah of course forgot about pencil lead...damn 21st century tevhnology (pen....cil?....) but yeah i might try this nut sauce u can hear obvious clicking at the nut when using the trem lightly...where can u get it?

how much did you get that for?

BTW graphite from pencils works well to lubricate the nut, allthoguha graphtech nut is only a few quid....

Schaller locking tuners are good, as are gotoh sperzal and planet waves....

Hee hee hee.........you said nutsauce.

I used a key hole lube that was all graphite powder that seemed to work well. I also load the trem block all the way up with springs. With all the springs installed it tends to go right back to zero when you let off the bar. Locking tuners work well too. Stretching the strings out helps.

Damn.........come to think of it.........a Strat is more of a pain in the ass than it's worth if you use the trem.

I've attempted to use trad trems on a couple of occasions and am very quickly reminded that I have others guitars I can do that stuff on better. Have no issues with the trad trem though - it makes a fine hardtail

actually i've found the tuning fairly stable for what i like doing - a few scoops really...i just wanted to ensure its all smooth running and properly lubed
