I've just cleaned the shite off the fingerboard on the 570, I nearly threw up it was practically green, a quick polish of the frets and she'll be ready I think. At the next string change I think I'll soak the trem as it's looking a bit gungy in the bits I can't reach.
I also noticed it's got a non std bridge pickup and upon taking it out found it's a DiMarzio DP153 which I'm assuming is a FRED? Which would be a nice bonus! On the downside the selector switch seems to be dodgy so that will need swapping out as well. Oh well, it's only a small job.
I'll have to do an Ibanez family pic when they're all ready.
Shobet,
Let me know what you think of that FRED. I have one here that I'm thinking of putting in my RG520QS. I don't have a problem with the V pickups, but I feel they are voiced for basswood, not mahogany. But I don't know much about FREDs other than Joe Satriani likes them. A buddy just gave me one so I need to pop it in that 520 sooner than later...
Here's my battle worn baby.
It's an 87 and I'm the original owner.
Been through at least a dozen pickup swaps.
Currently has a Custom Custom in the bridge, dummy pup in the middle slammed real low and an HS2 in the neck.
I set the middle pickups low as well as I like them out of the way, I'm quite heavy handed and sometimes catch them with the pick, so out of the way they go. I think I need one with a maple board now that I've seen yours Rick! How did you find the SD changed the sound compared to the stock V8?
Bengal I'll let you know what I think of the FRED when I've done some some more playing it. I used to have a PAF pro in my Charvel and I think the FRED is supposed to be a little bit hotter than that.
I recently took the PAF out as it's pink, (what was I thinking) and I've got a choice of putting a J-80C or a TB4 into her instead. I'm quite tempted to go back to the jackson pickup, but I'm also dying to know what the Trembucker makes her sound like.
I know what you mean about the necks, they are very comfortable, I don't shred that much, I tend to chug along but I just find them so easy to play!
Fwopping, you know you want to!
