My view on all of this...
Heres the deal.

Like many I also have a preference and that would be Charvel,
preferably the 80's neck profile found on the 20th anniversary guitar a few years ago. Truly an amazing beautiful feeling neck.

I'm a neck guy, meaning nearly everything else on the guitar regardless of the manufacture I focus mostly on the neck. The back profile, fretboard wood, frets, radius, all to provide the feel and playability of it.
Also, overall the guitar must have balls.
Meaning a big powerful sound that sustains well.
Granted, the amp has something to do with this also, but the guitar itself
has to have this characteristic. For me anyways.

I don't get to hung up on manufactures.
All (ibanez, fender, bc rich, charvel, jackson, warmoth and so on)
have something uniquely to offer. There are pros and cons of each manufacture and what will appeal to some may not to others.
Either way and regardless, when I sit down and sample a guitar, I KNOW what I'm looking as far as feel and playability is concerned. I could walk away with an Ibanez, ( I hear the 20th anniversaries are to die for) Fender, a Jackson and so on.

I'm not a collector nor do I have/get G.A.S.
I'm a player, that will play the same guitar nearly forever before getting another.
I just don't buy a guitar for the sake of buying a guitar.
Buying or building a personalized custom guitar is a big deal to me.
I don't want to sound weird or odd about it but thats how I am.
For me, buying a guitar is personal, I don't rush it I have no reason to.
It may take me weeks or months of going to various guitar stores before I finally
settled on what I want. If I choose the custom route, it may take me weeks before I decide on all the stuff I want in that guitar.
In these last couple of years, I prefer the custom route and when I do
I go with a warmoth build. That way the guitar will have all that I want it to and play and feel like I want it to. May cost alittle more but the extra expense is worth it.

Loyalty as far as guitars are concerned I have none.
Whatever is right for me is what I get.
With that said, even with their custom shop issues
a Charvel with a 80's broken in feeling oiled neck is hard to beat.
IMO, they are in a league of their own and one has to play one to understand.
A custom Charvel is very hard to beat.

once you get used to something you seem to stick with it, when the kids pick up an LTD, and play it because whoever they like plays one, they wanna get a guitar with a similar feel when they upgrade.

After playing a DK2 for a solid year straight, I got used to an R4, I hate R5s, R2s feel a little wierd, its basically all in the neck, if you dont like the sound switch the pickups.

and what is with all the bitching between goodwood and endrick or Whatever his F'n name is, one guy likes his LTDs, if you don't who gives a shit, you can't, don't, and never will make anyone's decision for them so don't bother trying, your bitching reminds me of the damn Jehovah's Witnesses, coming door to door, trying to say you are wrong, I am right, If anybody gave a fuck, they would follow your words closely , or in the case of the JWs, they'd go to the F'n watchtower!

I've played some good ltd's and some bad ones i've also played some crappy Jacksons and Gibsons too...

I played a really nice M-II neck through it jsut was a bit dead to me, allthough im sure the twin 81's and playing through a not so tweaked line 6 didnt help...

Damm I want an M-II again, allthough i'm sure the next couple of maple boarded gutiars i'll get will stop that...
