  • My star..Need suggestions!

I bought this Star off the 'bay in February, and I was planning on fixing it up..
The thing is, I'm gonna ask y'all what YOU would do if you had something like this to fix up..(I guess most of you are gonna say that I should throw it away, but I think it'd be a good guitar with some work, and stars are expensive over here!

Here's the deal: It has a glued in neck, seems sturdy..The neck looks like it's from either a Charvette or a Spectrum (Tuners say Charvel, so I'm guessing a Charvette), a JT-6 and I have two J80c's lying around..The body is made from alder, if I remember correctly..

    So, any ideas?

I don't know what botched means, but no - it doesn't look all that good

Yeah, first thing I'd do is fill in that trem route. Looks like a hack-job. I'd then shoot in something similar to a Ferrari Red. Change out the rest of the hardware to black, to match the trem. Snow white would look good, too.

So the trem route is a bit crazy, who cares. Slap a Floyd in there and some nice pups and play the B1tch. That is a coll guitar. How about a pick of the back side.
            Just one more guitar!

Yup. 1987 50 watt Laney AOR half stack. Had one back in the 80s, when it was new, and missed it, so I bought another, and have been happy ever since.

I don't know about the red, but maybe I'd look into something like alpine white, with black "fake" binding?

Would the trem-route be fixable with a router?

I use a Laney GH 100 L, and I'm very pleased with it! I payed like 250 usd for it, which is a great price I think! Mine needs new tubes though, what are you using in your AOR?(AOR=Airplay Oriented Rack?)

You payed 250?! Wow, good deal, I'd say.

I'm running JJ EL34s, at the moment, but one of them is going nuclear on me (just friggin installed them!), so I am thinking about either JJ E34Ls or a pair or Electro-Harmonix. For pres, I have a JJ in v1, a Shuguang in both v2 and v3, and a JAN 5751 in V4. WAY better than the factory tubes that were in there (Bought it from the original owner, in mint condition, and it had been sitting in storage for the past 15 years.), but I WOULD like to see if I can get a little more growl out or her.

                    AOR - Advanced Overdrive Response.

the trem routing would more than likely have to be filled, first, then routed, properly, but, yeah, it can be done. Ask MM2002. He's a wizard at body work, and it was his great work that inspired me to start doing paint and body mods, myself.

By the way, if you haven't already, you should come over to the two Laney forums. Great guys, over there that are more than willing to help answer any of your Laney questions.

I would say just the opposite Black with fake white binding

if it plays okay, i say put a hum in the neck and be done with it. that doesn't look like a charvel neck to me of any kind, though, the contour on the bass side looks off.

Yeah, that's not a Charvel neck, for exactly those reasons. It need the right nut width, too.
