Yup, oak actually is pretty dense. That cutout where the saddle sits is for a brass sustain block. Man, she sings!

That would look really cool outside a pub right now under a parasol and with 8 pints of cold lager sitting on it!
So I woke up,rolled over and who was lying next to me? Only Bonnie Langford!

        I nearly broke her back

Will the fretboard be Pine or Balsa? :ROTF:

            It actually looks pretty cool.
Don't forget the corn. It's nutritious, delicious, and ribbed for her pleasure.

I was thinking formica...to go with the kitchen table theme, with silverware inlays...

No offense but those neck and pickups look to be in pretty crappy shape. If you're going to do something nice like that, go and make it LOOK nice. I'm just not one for doing projects and using crappy looking parts unless thats the look you're going for.

I'll be looking into getting a better neck, I want to see if I can just buy fingerboards and make them myself. My biggest issue is wood. I'm probably best off is just getting a neck blank. They're fairly cheap at stew-mac.
This one just happens to fit for now. There is a chip at the corner.

The pickups are a Dimarzio PAF and one I pulled from a Kramer ST that I kind of like the sound of. This guitar (I think I mentioned at some time) had been assembled for several years, I liked it then, but didn't really like that rough looking natural finish. So I had it painted black. Didn't like that, either, though the guy did a great job.

Hell, same with the hardware. I'm debating chrome or gold. I don't like the way gold wears, but it matches the color.

I want to get back into building from scratch. I just could never get the wood I need. I have a small milling machine and a boatload of woodworking tools.

Gimme a little credit for shaping it, though...oak is a bear to work with, easy to splinter out.

I always use maple necks with rosewood fingerboards either self made or bought. Anyway, here's MY oak guitar.

                              Nice job,Blazer.

Do you buy rosewood fingerboards? If so, where's a good place?

The chrome doesn't look bad on it, I might go with that.

Do you know what kind of oak that is? It has a twisted grain, where the bich is relatively straight grained.

Mine isn't nearly as heavy as the model 88, or the Hamer phantom.
It's more like a mini-bich, as the original was quite wide at the hip. I like my blondes a bit skinnier. Also, the bevel doesn't show up very well, but it's quite deep most of the way around the top, also reducing weight and adding to a sleeker look.

Blazer, how are your pups wired? it looks like two mini switches and a selector...I have the same holes drilled out, had it setup humbuck/tapped on each pup, then selector. I was thinking about a three way mini for phase on the bridge pickup, just to get funky once in a while.

                              Thanks, great job.
