  • Gibson LP Custom WITHOUT gold hardware ?

    Hello

I've always liked the LP Custom... the full body, neck and headstock binding, etc. Cool.

The only problem is that I HATE gold hardware, I mean, I don't like how it looks on a guitar and I really don't like the fact that it will fade quickly if you play it frequently (or even if it won't fade quickly... it WILL fade somehow and sometime!).

So, I was always looking for a LP Custom that came STOCK with CHROME hardware. I remember seeing on ebay some 80's LP Customs with EMG's and chrome hardware, but they were "thin" or "streamlined".

Do these guitars exist? I mean, a regular LP Custom with STOCK chrome hardware?

Now, before you tell me that "hey, why don't you buy yourself a set of chrome tuners, bridges, screws, etc etc and replace the gold one ?" Well, the answer is simple... I wan't to get it stock, I don't want to get my hands (or a luthiers) into taking away or putting in parts of it. Weird huh?

I'm pretty sure there were some Customs with chrome, but they are not common. The one that springs to mind is the "Silverburst" finish.

the thin ones were the LP Lites, a guy i play with had one for a while then sold it to another guy i play with. you might just have to sack up and switch the parts out

Gibson LPC John Sykes model. Or any of their Japanese clones.

Yeah, buy one with gold, then change the parts to chrome. They're not hard to change.

The black 68 Reissue has nickel hardware if you like the aged look.

I believe a very few years in the 80's had chrome. Silverburst definitely comes to mind, but I think a few black customs were released as well.

The Sykes model comes "used" as well, but instead of the hardware, the paint is worn off in places.

Yes, the '68 reissues come black or white with chrome hardware.

They exist. Someone on the LP forum just picked up one from a recent limited run, so there may be some brand new ones around.

LP Standard Limited Edition comes pretty close. IIRC, this model was discontinued recently. Here's some examples...

Wow that's exactly what I want (the LP Custom on the pic), nice, but I'd keep the chrome pup covers.

Why spend $4K on a faked up Les Paul when you can get a 1978 (mine's a '77) for $1366 ( I'm a frugal shopper on ebay :ROTF: ) If I was a big Sykes fan, I'd just change out the hardware and put a Dirty Fingers in the bridge, but this guitar totally nails the Thin Lizzy guitarist's tone prior to John, so it stays as-is
