Don't really know much about Gibson LP Standards. But I have a 2002 model with what really looks like an ebony fingerboard. I was under the impression the boards were rosewood. Was this the norm for the LP Standard 5 years ago? And it says "Standard" on the truss rod covers, but some Standards don't have that, it's blank. Also, what pickups were used in 2002 on these? "Burst Buckers?" Here's some pics:

Looks like someone did a special run. The norm for Standards is Rosewood boards and Standard engraved in the truss rod cover. I know Gibson does special runs and then are discontinued. This maybe one of these runs. A real nice looking Les Paul! Pickup's, they vary from year to year from what I have seen.Tone is like Art: Your opinion is valid. The combination of ebony and dark red is always a win for me. Fantastic guitar.Dreaded Silence - Boston Melancholic Metal

I have a standard with an ebony board. It is a limited edition, though, from 93. Mine has a blank truss rod cover, but the regular les paul sig on the headstock. AFAIK, yours "should" have a rosewood board, but in those pics, it certainly looks like ebony. Check lespaulforum, maybe one of those guys would know. Its a complete catastrophe. But Im a professional, I can rise above it. LOL
