  • Well, I Got Me A Light Les Paul

I was asking about the DC Pro a few short threads ago. I decided on the 24 fret bound necked Standard DC Plus over the Pro. It's Root Beer, Yum and light too! It's in Mint condition for a slightly used guitar. I had a little trouble with the G string locking Grover tuner as it was hanging as I was re-stringing it. Balance is real nice. The Pup's are the 490 series and seem OK, although I may experiement with a '75 Classic in the bridge later. The finish is typical late Model Gibson (Nitro lacquer with a touch of "orange peel") Not like the good old days. The fit and finish is nice though and the Gold Hardware is a nice touch. The inlays are slightly greenish, but not enough for me to turn away. The factory installed locking Grover tuners are OK, but I would have prefered Sperzel's or Schaller's.

Well, what's it sound like? I ran it through quite a few amp setups and my overall impression is the sounds are between a Les Paul, SG and ES-335. I happen to have all of those too. I would not substitute these for a traditional LP in the tone department, but it's similar. Unplugged, it's very acoustic sounding due to the chambering. It's a very "Airy" sound plugged in with a good amount of crunch. It cleans up to play some Country Rock, then into Jazz. It is very versatile. The 24 fret access is a little tight for my big hands. But, I can get to the 23rd pretty easily. The 24th takes a little gymnastics.

Noce ! Do you have any feedback issue with a chambered guitar like with a "full" hollow body ?

Thanks! No, no problems with a chambered guitar and feedback, like say a hollow body in which air and sound waves can enter.

Nice score! People give the double-cut LPs shit for some reason, but I love 'em. The lead guitarist from this excellent local band Polaris uses a Trans Black one, and he definitely gets his own vibe.

Sweet! I've always really liked 24-fret Double Cuts, especially in Rootbeer.
