that's the knock on Carvin, you have it exactly right. and enough people agree with that, that it drives down their used resale value.

and I'm one of those critics. they use excellent materials but I just don't like how their guitars look.
the guitar players look damaged - they've been outcasts all their lives

+1 Me too. I've tried to justlfy an electric, but the looks kill it for me. Possibly I'll eventually get the Classical electric acoustic.

Their neck thrus look "fat" to me. The three strat models look close to a strat but I am not sure if they are the same size or not.

I love my Carvin 7 string. It's become my # 1 guitar for playing everything on.
I go back and forth between this and my SL2H soloist 90% of the time I play now.
My poor GMWs sit in their cases alot these days
I had to swap out the pickups (put in bare knuckle pickups) and I put in a 250K volume pot and now it
sounds great. the neck on this is a little thinner than a Schecter and a bit thicker than an Ibanez. (very comfortable)
I agree on the body styling but it does looks much better in person than it does in pics.
delivered to my door 7 weeks after ordering it.

With the bareknuckles and an OFR bridge that I dropped in.

I agree... I don't like the shallow contours and the HS design. Their fretwork is some of the best I have seen straight from the factory though.

I am constantly surprised at how reasonable so many Carvins are. I am also surprised at how many of them fail to turn me on, even with great specs. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I've never had one calling out to me, demanding I buy it.

I've owned three Carvins... an SC90, a DC400 and a 12-string DC120. This SC90 is the first one I got, and it's the only one I still own. I found it on their website in the In-Stock section about 5 years ago. I kept looking at it and couldn't get away from it, it was calling my name! I was never crazy about maple boards, reverse headstocks or gold hardware, but I love them now!

The two coil tap switches have now been replaced with an extra volume and tone control, and the toggle switch was also replaced with a DiMarzio "Petrucci" switch so I can get the inner coils on together in the middle position... I also can get single coil tones when in the middle position by turning off the volume of either pickup. It also now sports creme DiMarzios (Super Distortion and Super 2) instead of the stock C22N and C22T pups. The Carvin pups were very good, I just wanted more output and had the DiMarzios laying around.
I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.

I have owned a few Cavin guitars and own 2 of their amps right now, the amps are awsome!! The guitars are very good, but I sold each of them, because the specs weren`t exactly right. I will oder a new one if they re-issue the "ST"(strat) body option again as I don`t like their DC body, rounded or square. They already offer the early 90`s pointy headstock option and I will get that, just waiting for the "ST" option and I will jump!!

                    Jack.

I wish the contours were more like the late 80's DCs, but great guitars overall.

Here are 2 pictures of the "ST" body option that was offered into the 90`s and then dropped-big mistake in my opinion!! Jack.

I have played Nick's guitar - very well made and a great player (its just that damn extra string LOL!). Also, the pup swap made all the difference in tone. If you like these guitars, get a new one. Only caveat would be, if you are a flipper, I would make sure you try to order something with appeal for the masses or I would expect to take a bath on re-sale.

Anyone own/got pics of those funky reverse Rhoads and reverse Star shaped models carvin has? I'd love to get one of those in future, but the local distributor for Carvin here hikes the price up quite a bit, and the US site won't ship international
