I never owned a BC Rich before and always loved the Mockingbird shape. I really didnt need another gutar but I was wanting something different, an ESP LP or something and I stumbled upon the import mockingbirds that sorta has an LP vibe going on, 22 frets, 2 Vol, 2 tone and 3 wat toggle up top.
I got it in yesterday and I'm really impressed with the quality of this made in Korea guitar. I swapped out the original pickups for some Dimarzios laying around, Super 3 in the bridge and I dunno whats in the neck. Here's the pictures

For the price of these things its a helluva lot of guitar for the money. My first impressions right ot of the box was the finish is better than I expected it to be for this price range, no flaws except perhaps not as sharp of a line where in the stain the neck binding meets the body. It has a nice bit of weight, about 13 lbs or so and comfortable to play. The thing was set up with super low action and had no buzz at all. It has wide/fat neck that feels a lot like the JCF-01 necks. Its well balanced when playing sitting down and standing up. It resonates well playing accoustically, no dead spots and has the nice sustain of any neck-thru I've played. The set-up was dead nuts on intonation and the action really low, lower than I like so I'll end up raisning it a bit. Fret work is nice, ebony board is a nice tight grain abd dark and I expect there was son darkening somehow, stain or what not. it could use some oil as its a little dry right now. I'm used to 25.5 scale guitars and this one is 24.75 but it was really comfortable to play. I have medium size hands and access to the 22nd fret (when bending up to the E note) and took some adjustment on my frethand but I got used to it after about 20-30 minutes. The MoP (plastic I assume) look prety good but wish they were the real deal but typical of guitars in this prce range. I really couldnt put the thing down
I plugged it into my Bogner 101B and the stock pickups sound alright. I may end up keeping the neck pickup, sounded pretty nice and was able to go from clean to mean with using the volume pot. The bridge pickup wasnt doing it for me for some reason. I may remove the chrome covers (dont like the look of covered pu's) to see if that helps at all if not I have a bunch of Dimarzios and Duncans around that I can throw in there.
Now the bad....the 3 way toggle switch is jacked up but I will try some contact cleaner to see if that corrects it. That was frustrating me because sometimes changing pickups ended up with about 1/2 output or the pickup and flipping the switch a couple times it would come at full output again.
Other than that the guitar is extremely well built, comfortable to play, sounds good and a great buy (I paid $565 shipped). I got this one to see if I'd like the Mockingbird shape w/o having to pay the prices of the USA Supreme models and then lose $ if I didnt like it and have to sell it. I'll give it a couple weeks to see if I like it enough to get a USA model. In all honesty, and I'm sure I'll take some flame for saying this....it was on par to the build quality of the JCF-01 I had yet a fraction of the costs.
