Let's talk about REAL Lynch guitars, not his "I need some cash - just put it out there and I'll endorse it" shit. That guitar is hideous. I've never seen him with one other than in that print ad.

When I think Lynch, I think Charvel customs, Kramer Berettas that get "the works" done to them, and then his ESP heavy hitters - the Tiger, Purple Tiger, Skulls & Snakes (Haji), and the Kami. THOSE are Lynch gutars. This "V" thing, the F-style Flamin' Bari, and the old "Ultratone" are not.

I was told recently by ESP that the Lynch bodies (except the Kami's) are now made of soft maple/western instead of eastern Hardrock maple. The customer service rep said the decision was made based on customer complaints about weight and their builders felt it was more resonant. I recently had a 2006 ESP M1 Tiger in my hands and it definently felt lighter then most of my Alder Charvels.

Makes sense to me, as Western soft maple is generally regarded as being warmer and less bright than Eastern hard rock maple. So it's probably a good compromise.

If I recall right, George lost his faith in Charvel when Wayne or Grover suggested basswood to him, and he hated it

so he told his roadie/tech to go look for some good stuff and his roadie brought him a Kramer Baretta (maple neck,rosewood Fingerboard, maple body) which, as far as I can tell is where he got the tonal ideas for his sig models.

Actually, he traded a Charvel he didn't like much for a Kramer he "had to have" but hated even more. He actually made a special trip to get the Baretta, and almost missed the show.

My LTD M1 Tiger is a pretty cool axe.

Lynch played a Super V when I saw him at a clinic in May. From what I could tell, it was one of his own guitars and not stock from the store hosting the event.

But I agree that it's hideous-looking and I definitely associate him with strat-style guitars like the ones you mentioned.

I'm betting he's probably getting some $$$ from ESP to take it on the clinic tours. I'd be interested to hear if he's using it for shows though - for more than 1 song anyway.

I am seriously considering a skulls and snakes, but I dont want to spend that kind of money for something that will sound just like an alder bodied Jackson. I would rather just buy another Jackson instead. There are no shops around here and I doubt musicians friend in KC would have one in stock. I think Sam Ash is the only place I have seen one.

If you can find an LTD Skull and Snakes they were made of maple. They had good parts as well.

Yeah - I had noticed that in the catalog. I tried to get one once, but lost out at the last second. Bummer...
