  • Squier strat

Brought home a 1988 MIJ Squier strat today rosewood board and a neck to die for.Cigarette burns on the headstock looks to be a quartersawn neck too.
original bridge rusty as hell, original electronics and pickups.
Body is in great shape a few dings here and there. The paint has aged quite well looks to have been blue but is now a mottled green.
Boy does this thing sound great and looks cool too.
    Really? well screw Mark Twain.

Squiers Rule. But, you know I already know that.:ROTF: I have yet to find my MIJ. But, I will. I have a USA, Indo, Korean, China but no MIJ. I'm not dead yet.

I just wish they had used Kluson tuners.I must go rip it apart and see what lies underneath the grit and grime.

If it looks good, feels good, and plays well, why mess with it? I bought an MIM Strat that had "Bar Scene" all over it. Including the only way you can make the back of the neck amber. Cig smoke.

You know me JF I don't do pics just tease.
Pulled it all apart and this (according to my strat guru) is the MIJ equivelant to a 60s strat hence the 362V markings on the neck heel and neck pocket.
original pickups and large block vintage trem.3 single pickup route in body(no bathtub).
Daphne blue turned green with age.The only draw back to this guitar is I'm going to have to refret it soon the first 5 frets are grooved pretty bad and when it comes to vintage fender frets there ain't much there to begin with.
Oh yeah it had a black pearloid pickguard on it so that had to go, I aged a mint green one that I had and it looks killer now.

That sure was a minty one huh Daryl? This one is a well worn gigged and covered in funk.Got her all buttoned up and playing it right now plays great the pots have wads of solder everywhere. I will get an RS upgrade kit monday and replace the pots and caps and rewire with cloth covered vintage wire.

Piece of cake Fett. The reason I'm willing to put money in this guitar because its a keeper. It was a tossup between it and a late 70s Aria pro II TC 400.It was a hard choice beleive me.

Sounds like a real keeper dude! I love good squiers, and jap ones can be amazing guitars. Dad always returns to his jap 57 reissue squier as his main player, and he has many options. I plan on refretting my protone squier soon (nice ash body, rock maple fretboard, alnico pickups, fender stamped saddles etc.) and would change the pups in a second if it wasnt lovely and original. Once the input jack goes and I have to unsolder it I'll get new everything for it and keep the orig stuff in the cupboard

A friend of mine picked a Squier up in a pawnshop last week, $50 out the door. It's Chinese, not an Affinity though. He says the neck is super flamey and really a great playing neck. Not an exceptional find by the model, but if the neck is as nice as he said it's well worth it..

I have a Korean Stagemaster neckthrough that I really like for what it is. Plays great and stays in tune, and the pickups don't even suck!
                            Ron is the MAN!!!!

Dropped the squier off at RS guitarworks today to get the nut filled and reslotted and the 1st 4 frets replaced.I dont have a small crowning file and maybe just too cheap to buy one so I'll let Roy tackle that job.The upgrade kit I will put in this weekend.
This squier is a real nice player and has had the shit played out of it and thats just what I was looking for so its a keeper.I was going to build a 63 era strat relic anyway but I figured this way I'll save $600.00+ dollars.
