I put a vote in for the Lindy Fralin blues specials and his real 54's.I have a blues special 10% over the neck of my new strat head mutt project and it has very bell like tones but is a bit smoother than a fat 50's but the guitar is alder with a 1/4 in quilt maple top that might be why its a bit smoother.
Fralin real 54's kick ass in a alder/ash/poplar strat bodies. Real open and woody.
    Really? well screw Mark Twain.

I'm the opposite, I find the Strat easier to play.

I thought that was crazy, but now many many years after I truly understand.

        My fav CS pups are;

        1- 54's
        2- Fat 50s
        3- '69s
************ Except that Clapton is only about 1/2 as good as
he was in 1970 imo! So his skills diminished after dropping the SG's?
If you listen to early Creme, he was WAY better than he has ever
been since the late 70's... so get on back to that Gibby Eric!

I just can't do Strats... I keep trying, but they just don't get along with me.

I love strats but most of my favorite guitarists play Gibsons. I always wonder how Derek Trucks gets by with a Gibson SG. He's constantly retuning the dang thing. Keeeeerrriiiiiissssssssst.

Put 6105 frets in and they are much easier to play.Vintage frets are hard to play IMO.

If you think a Strat is hard to squeeze, try a Tele! A few years of hard practice on a "baseball bat" neck Tele really helped my technique.

Better yet, get a NoNeck Strat and enjoy the best of both worlds.
I have a NoNeck Strat, 9.5" radius and 6105 frets = Heaven. So sweet....

I'm all about strats but I will not do the VT S-S-S config My strats have been modded for H-S-H and Floyds. I have no problem playing the smaller frets and neck radius but I've always been a strat and super strat kinda guy. I guess there may be some truth that you have to play a bit harder as on my TOM Mockingbird I have to lighten up the attack a hair or 2

I find Strats and Teles very comfortable to play.... vintage style guitars just fit me so well

There is a big problem for me anyway with a floyd and a vintage radius neck the two E strings are too high off the neck its hard to play. Now a 12 degree radius neck and a floyd love it.My latest mutt is a USACG neck (ebony board)reversed strat head and a USACG alder body(1/4 in quilt maple top)a recessd floyd 1 hum 1 single and a pick guard.1 Vol 1 tone and a 3-way.Jumbo frets and its a killer.
