Slight mod to my #1

My #1 guitar is this JEM 7VWH (I know, I'm a traitor).


I am always looking for ways to improve all of my gear, but it took awhile to figure out a way to improve this, as this guitar is perfect for me as is.

But . . . I'm happy to say that I did find one way to make it a bit cooler.

I went to see Vai last week and got it signed by the man himself!



I clear coated the trem cover to protect the signature, so I think (hope) that should keep it safe. It was pretty scary buffing the orange peel out of that clear coat with rubbing compound, though!

Anyway, just thought I'd share. Vai was very cool and down to earth. Great show, too.

Cool. If it was me I'd just buy a replacement cover and keep that on in a ziplock bag. Or display it.

Saw Vai on Sunday in Toronto. Really cool guy, took the time to talk to us and sign my buddy's guitar.

He does wear some funky outfits though ...

She was great!!! I was a little apprehensive about them having 2 violinists on stage (hey, did I just walk into a taping of Austin City Limits?) But I ended up liking it a lot.

I still would love to see Vai do a tour with just bass and drums, though. Him, Billy Sheehan, and some great drummer, and that's it. It would be cool to see what he could do in a trio setting.

I thought about getting a new trem cover for it, but I'm pretty careful with my guitars, and I think it should be safe under the clear coat. If it starts to deteriorate, I will remove it, of course.

I wanted him to sign the trem cover from my JEM 10th, too, but his manager said we should only ask him to give 1 autograph, as they were pressed for time.

I have been a Vai fan for many years.
I met Steve at one of the NAMM shows back in the mid 90's and in 89 at the Van Nuy's Guitar Show he has the best attitude towards his fans.

Congrats, that's a sweet Jem! It's in really good shape, what year?

IMO, the only thing that needs 'improvement' on these, and it's subjective, is I wish they had full jumbo frets instead of the tall, skinny 6105s. Same beef I have with JSs, KV2s, SRVs, EVHs, etc.

Edit - A sustainer would be cool too

I absolutely LOVE those guitars. So classy looking. I see you have an earlier one with the ebony, which is a definite plus.
