51?!?!?!? damn, i have 21 again and i think it is too many. i have started playing different brand "sets" at certain gigs. like i will have the jackson gig, the hamer gig, the ibanez gig, the PRS gig, etc. i have at least 3 of each brand, so i will take 3 to a gig on a particular night. makes the shows more fun for our crowd - "which set is he bringing tonight??" it has worked out rather well as a "marketing ploy" - especially since i play gaudy-ass guitars!!!

my singer has started doing photo shoots of her posed in a bikini holding a different guitar and wearing a different bikini in each. we are gonna start putting them up as our profile picture on our myspace page.

for those of you that have never seen my singer, here's a pic of her:

so, having that many guitars is turning out to be useful, in a way, but i still feel it is excessive.....BUT....

it ain't 51!!!!! i bow to you , dude - but you have a disease!!!!
      GEAR:

some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!

some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!

      and finally....

i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

The most i ever had was 25 fully functional. Then i fell on hard times and sold all but my Stealth Pro and my acoustic. Now im building back up and currently at 16. And i have a 17th on layaway at work. So i m gettin it back up there again. Maybe when my settlement comes in from my broken ankle. That number will jump significantly But who knows i can hope right?

I usually only have about a dozen or so because it is all I can store in my house. I used to have more and stored a bunch somewhere else but they all got stolen about 10 years ago. I lost some really nice ones that I still miss. Insurance wouldn't cover them because it wasn't my house and my rider was written wrong. I lost about 4 amps also. I don't do that or use that insurance company anymore.

I always make sure there is money to buy proper food, clothes & education. But I draw the line at buying children.

Keep in mind...I am an old guy from the 80's. Many guitars at that time that I could not afford. Later in life I went back and got some of those 80-90's guitars (you see it on the forum all the time). Still need an arch top Phil Collen!
BTW...I would love to have a hot female singer! I would probably play mainstream just to watch a nice piece of ass of a female singer.
No honey, I have always had this Jackson....

At the moment im at 6 and craving a 7th. I think its good to have a selection, but being left handed sort of limits me.
(left to right) Ibanez VBT 700 strung lefty, right handed RR bolt on, Fender MexiStrat lefty, 89 Gibson Les Paul righty, Schecter C-1 Hellraiser lefty, ESP/LTD DV200 strung lefty.

                    • Throughout my life I've had maybe 10 or twelve total, but never at one time. The most at once is three...my wife says that's the limit, and that may be pushing it.

                        • Including the Charvel that's, fingers crossed, on its way to be tomorrow, I have 5 guitars. 4 electrics, though one of them doesn't get played any more (I've kept it because it was my first guitar and it has sentimental value) and an acoustic which I only noodle around on every couple of weeks.

Space wise, I already have too many. I could quite happily only have one guitar but it's nice to have a few to pick and choose from.

I think once you have more than two versions of the same kind of guitar or spend half an hour walking up and down your music room trying to decide which one to play, it's time to cut back a bit.
                          Why so serious?

Well, I'm settling for 5 electrics since I'm gassing for a seven stringer. Or a backup for my main gig axe. So for me, beyond 5 is well, impractical. More guitars=more costs. And I think I should play and practice more instead of hanging around rakuten or ishibashi waiting for that new J. Stars.

                              • I have a wife and 3 kids, so my collection is always between 6 to 9 or so. Over the last year or so I've bought or traded for at least 40 or so.......wish I coulda kept them all, but having the family means I gotta give one up to get a new one in usually. I kind of look at it like a lending library. Right now I'm at 5 guitars.....Gibson M3,Ibanez USA Custom Graphic, 87' Ibanez RG-550 and a flame bodied mutant guitar. I have a Zion Radicaster that's going to Italy tomorrow, and the 87' 550 is on the block........but I have a 80' Carvin CM-130 and a Brian Moore i.2 coming in. I also have a Cort Curbow bass.

As far as how many is too many........like others have said, as long as the bills get paid, and the family isn't deprived........there's really no limit.
