  • Good custom builders?

Recommend your favourite custom guitar builders! I'm looking to put something together in the next couple of months and I'd like to know where I should get it built! Thanks guys.

Anderson or Suhr. I haven't seen anybody with comperable quality on a bolt on neck guitar.

How "custom" are you looking for? Something like Warmoth or Carvin or a truly custom guitar?

Full blown custom! I ordered a Carvin but I'm considering cancelling and eating the 10% deposit to save for a guitar that is 100% what I want... Damn Carvin and their lack of neck binding, as well gay inlay choices, haha...

The whole no neck binding thing REALLY pisses me off. It is just my opinion, but neck thru guitars with no binding don't look right to me.

GMW - the new headstock designs are an aquired taste, but they're great guitars!
Popular is not the same as good
Rare is not the same as valuable
Worth is what someone will pay, not what you want to get

What's especially irritating is that they do it on all of their acoustic models! Haha... hopefully one day they'll offer it.

The guitar I want isn't even that special, basically just an RG with a trans green finish over some sort of figured top, with natural body binding, string through, 2 humbuckers, reverse headstock, bound ebony board with either sharkfins or offset block inlays ala ESP... anyone know anywhere that I could get something like that done? Preferrably with either an Ibanez, ESP or Jackson headstock shape...

Talk to Neal Moser. I think we have a JCF'er that can vouch for his work.

Check out Don Grosh. I have two of his guitars and he's a phenomonal builder. His fret work is out of this world. I don't know what he'd do about matching someone else's headstock shape, though. But you'll never know unless you ask.

Here are my two Groshes (sorry for the bad lighting):

For the red guitar, Don matched the metallic finish on a travel mug that my wife really liked. I actually sent him the mug so that he could do that. It came out great and was a dead-on match.
Takeoffs are optional but landings are mandatory.
