Ah okay. The '79 Series has the Series II big headstock, that's probably what everyone hates... I think the others have a slightly smaller headstock.

Imo there are much worse/uglier headstocks in the Dean catalogue than the V... the "shrimpfork" headstocks on some of the Cadillacs n such look hooorrible to me.

All mine are the Series II headstocks - they are HUUUge... But they still are okay - then you can fit all the pretty binding on it!!

Is there anyone left that's knowledgeable on the Dean board? I'm waiting on an admin to okay an account for me over there so that I can ask if a Vendetta 4.0 would need to be routed to take Blackouts. People over there appear to have put Duncan Distortions without any trouble, but Blackouts are a little bigger. I figured they'd be the people to ask, but if it's just full of "Dean FTW" kids I may as well just remove the existing pickups and check for myself.

            Thanks,

            Ken

There are still people over there who know their stuff. I've been a member there for 5 years. But myself and most of the other older guys rarely post any more, because of all the kiddies talking BS. However, if you ask a decent question, the older guys who know more will usually pop on and answer you. They mostly just troll now.

They need age restrictions for kids < 14 years old on the Dean forum, that's what totally spoils it most of the time...

                    Hey Dana,

That sounds like a real pity to me. It seems nonsensical to chase the knowledgeable people off of a forum; they're what it's all about. There's certainly been hints of it here (since I started lurking a little over a year ago); I sincerely hope it doesn't persist.

I expect my question is a little too basic to deserve a response from those in-the-know on the Dean board, as it is just about the size of the pickup cavity in a Vendetta. If I don't get a response, I'll remove the pickups and check the dimensions myself before I order replacements. Forget the trouble makers: if I don't get a response, I'll post the answer to my own question so that someone else doesn't have to ask it.

                    Cheers,

                    Ken

                    • yeah i played a few out at the GC here in town. the dean from hell played and sounded really good but no way am i gonna pay $1,000 for a chinese guitar. USA models are way overpriced IMO but then again most USA guitars these days are way overpriced.

Nope...same name as here...guitarforceone. You just never see me 'cause I don't post much any more.

Ken, sorry, I don't happen to know the answer to that question. Ooops...I didn't pay attention. You have to have permission to get an account there now?

                          Hey Dana,

It's just the same as here: fill out an online form and then wait for an admin to activate the account. I expect the delay is an attempt to disuade spammers.

                          Cheers,
