[QUOTE=ken;1004989]Does no one like the Dean Z (the Explorer/Kelly)? I think the massive headstocks suit them, but that the ye-olde-worldy V-string-thru plate is awful. I've seen customs without the plate and they rock.
[QUOTE]
I have a '79 Blueburst Z - it's the best of the three I have. Balance is great, and the headstock doesn't look so ridiculous since the body is pretty large too.
I don't really care for the string-thru plates either, but it is what it is.

I have avoided Deans myself. I read on their own forum from owners that Dean outsources their guitars. They do not make their own. US Masters I guess is one shop that makes some.
The posts at Harmony Central are OK but nothing great said about them.
And I have not read anything on this forum that is supportive of them compared with Suhr or Moser lets say.
I have a friend that got one about a year ago. He still has it but purchased a PRS and likes it better.
I tried one of the Dime imports at GC and thought it was really cheap.
I am not saying there aren't any good ones. I don't know. The Dean forum is so baised I have formed an opinion from other sources.PLAY TILL U DIE !!!

I dont like Deans because it seems whenever theres a thread about them, people seem to loose IQ points, and there are words like "taint" and "pwned" and crap like that. Maybe people keep getting hit in the head by those headstocks. Brain damage is a sad thing to have. Poor little retards..............
I always thought the Cadillacs and Vs were cool. Never understood why they didnt use the shrimpfork headstock on all there guitars. Those V ones are a nightmare. Look cool on a V though............

The reason the dean forum is so shit is because it really is not moderated, and people just flood the place saying " dime FTW!" "washburns suck" and all that crap.
That forum does give a bad impression on people of Dean guitars. Also, if someone says they don't like one of the dealers guitars, the dealer phones the web manager, and they get banned.
Not so long ago, many people that actually talked about guitars and not dime got banned, it's a shame really.

Ok, got that out of my system...
I find the import (Korean) Deans to be pretty nice - as I've mentioned before a few times. Yeah, the headstock turns a lot of people off, but at least it makes a STATEMENT. more than I can say for some of the builders out there who just revamp Fender headstocks until they BLEED. I have grown kinda fond of the Dean V-hs style. And try to find a nicer Blueburst finish... Anyway, if you don't own a Dean, then commenting in this thread is kinda like me commenting in a PRS thread - it means very little. Just some food for thought. If you think they're ugly, great, but spend some time to get to know one without looking at the headstock. They're fine instruments, and they have certainly broke some ground with designs over the years.

Its not the shape people dont like, its the rediculous size of it. The other guitarist in my band just bought a Dean V and it just looks very unproportionate. Just opinion though, if it was smaller I think it would look ALOT better.Imagine, being able to be magically whisked away to... Delaware. Hi... Im in... Delaware...

Is there anyone left that's knowledgeable on the Dean board? I'm waiting on an admin to okay an account for me over there so that I can ask if a Vendetta 4.0 would need to be routed to take Blackouts. People over there appear to have put Duncan Distortions without any trouble, but Blackouts are a little bigger. I figured they'd be the people to ask, but if it's just full of "Dean FTW" kids I may as well just remove the existing pickups and check for myself.
Thanks,
Ken
