MMMMMMmmmmmmmmm I...hate to be "the guy", but....
First and foremost, sweet, sweet axe.
However.
I very seriously doubt those bulletholes are "real" in the sense they were made by the guitar being shot.
Obviously the guitar was not assembled or painted when it was shot, as evidenced by how clean the paint is....the "powder burns" are painted on, appearing on both sides of the body, which of course wouldn't happen if the guitar was shot from one side, even if it was at the close range needed to produce powder marks at all. That would be quite dangerous.
I suppose it's possible that a fully-jacketed, hardball round would punch such a clean hole. But even hardball deforms. Looks to me like at least a .38/.357 and might even be .45 cal. I can tell you however having shot planks of wood with both (admitedly, pine 2x4) the exit is not nearly as clean, nor is the entry for that matter. Is it different using harder woods? I guess it could be, but I would expect some long splintering on the back. Maybe in harder wood the splinters would be shorter & could easily be trimmed or pushed back into the wood.
I don't know how many piece bodies gunslingers have but I have to believe the body was not glued when it was shot, which would of course mean it wasn't shaped yet either when it took those rounds.
The amount of energy even a relatively low velocity pistol round has I think would surprise alot of people, in terms of how much damage it causes when it hits different materials. If I had to lay money on what would happen when an alder guitar body was shot with a standard velocity .38 I would expect much more damage than you see there...certainly more if it was shot twice & the body had to absorb the shock again.
Still an awesome guitar.
EDITED TO ADD: Saw the original thread where you brought the guitar up, and you mentioned that it was shot before painted/finished...much more believable (NOT DOUBTING YOU IN THE LEAST...Just more believable from a "we shot this guitar do you want to buy it?" BC Rich sales pitch standpoint). I still believe there'd be more damage, but who knows, maybe Bernie corked off on blanks all day long and only kept those that didn't explode.
