I actually thought that post was funny at first - then I thought, "Dave Mustaine wrote 'Rust In Peace', what did you ever do?"

You say he knows nothing about guitars - I assume you mean technically. The guy knows how to fucking PLAY the things.
I wouldn't mind being a "twat" like him if I had such a body of classic music behind me. Maybe then I wouldn't mind people calling me a twat because I don't know how to adjust a truss rod.

He's a twat in general, I agree, but to call into question his guitar skills is just a ridiculous thing to do. He's also been edited in that video, so his comments AREN'T too technical. That video is for idiots to watch, so they want a Dean guitar just like his.

The video for the newer version of Tout le Monde is halfway down the page. It's tiny, but the audio is good. -1 for not having Marty Friedman's solo +10 for having Cristina Scabbia's hotness.

I hate that fucking song. I burned myself a copy of the new album and missed that piece of crap off it. Much better album without it.

            She's a gorgeous woman though.

That much I can gaurantee... for all we know him and Dean would have parted ways by then. There are already rumors him and line 6 are done and that amp isn't going to be made.

They may do a limited run of his "angel of death" dean with the wings next.

I might buy the VMNT X import if it matches the physical dimensions and see how I like it first. I've been trying to get my hands on narrower body type flying V's and this might fit the bill. I like the new headstock too.

Like I said above, I'm only interested in the GoW one because I don't like the look of the black or silver VMNT. I'd still give this series a try whether it had DM's name on it or not.

The best thing to do would be to buy the same - cheaper - stuff he used on those albums, not the shit he uses now.

Same for this Mustaine sig guitar, or really ANY sig guitar/amp by any artist whos best days are behind them.

But people don't seem to realise that, and they run out and buy whatever their hero puts his name to. If I want to sound like Angus Young I certainly wouldn't buy his sig guitar - it has a fucking tremelo and how many times have you ever seen him use one of those?!

Save your money - just buy the bog standard stuff they actually USED on the classic albums, not the shit they were paid to use.
I go for my own sound and don't really need to buy a guitar just because someone else plays it. I'm getting the Dean Mustaine V because I like it, and I've always wanted a V. I also have a Jackson Mark Morton signature model because I like the shape... it also sounds and plays great! I do like Megadeth and LOG, but it doesn't matter to me whether they have signature models or not.

Oh, no way am I saying he can't play. Dude, I am a huge fan of Mustaine. I've met him a few times, so I already know he's a twat, but no doubt he is a metal legend.

Listen to what he says about the Deans having such nice wood for the tops, instead of just being black or some other solid color. If he'd have asked for flame tops on his Jacksons, he would have got them. I've seen custom shop KVs with 1/4" thick flame maple caps on them that looked awesome. He's either guitar-dumb, or he's just spouting drivel to sell his sig models. Either way, it's pathetic.

I've known a few guitarist personally who were great players, but knew absolutely NOTHING about the guitar itself. I'm surprised they even knew how to tune it. Actually, the other guitar player in my band was like that. He's a great player, and really shreds, but I do all his setups and repairs for him. He's better than he was years ago, but he still can't do his own intonation properly.

I figure Dave's tech would do all that for him. It would be interesting to know how many famous guitar players would actually have a clue how to set up a guitar.

I'm with you Joe. I have a KV1 because I wanted a USA KV with a fixed bridge, and it was cheap. I couldn't really give a flying fuck that it has Dave's sig on the headstock, even if I am a big Megadeth fan. I'm an even bigger fan of COC, and I haven't gone out and bought an SG yet.

I was looking at the Jeff Waters signature Ran, and I was thinking that if it didn't say Annihilator on it, I might get one. It's not that I don't like Annihilator, in fact I think they rock, but why would I want it on my guitar?

Ah well fair enough - I know he's a twat, I've read enough interviews of his over the years and I also dont like the fact he got rid of Ellefson and pretended his hand was injured to make that process easier.
His guitar playing and writing skills cant be questioned though. I think his talk about woods and stuff was just waffle to make Dean sound good. I did wonder about it when he said it, because my SL3 has a great natural finish, so I KNOW Jackson can do it on a mid range guitar never mind something Mustaine would be getting. He's just talking shit to sell Dean and earn his free guitars.

But he wrote "Tornado Of Souls". I'm willing to forgive him near enough anything - even that Christian guff on "the System has Failed".

Well that's you. And me too. Possibly most people on this forum would be the same too. But signature stuff sells because the people buying it have no idea what they're doing.
Artists only make signature gear when they're massive, and by that time their tone has totally changed from their classic material.
Slayer are the ultimate example - their tone now is horrendous, but people will buy that shit to try and sound like Slayer did when they were 21. It won't work, you'll just sound like a poor "Christ Illusion" clone and I can imagine nothing worse than sounding like that crap.
Buy a guitar, like you, because you like it, not because it'll make you sound like a guy did 20 years earlier.

I'll even possibly commit a cardinal sin by mentioning Phil Collen - people are probably buying the PC1 because they like "Pyromania", or "Hysteria", but Phil never used anything like a PC1 on those albums. I dont think he even used a Sustainer until at least "Slang". I'd bet there are even people looking for the sound on "High N Dry" buying PC1s without realising he never even played on the album.

Relax dude. No one here said they wanted to sound like DM. No one asked for any opinions on the Slayer or various PC signature models.

Oh right "dude". Sorry. I'm getting carried away and discussing things on a discussion forum. I even gave some opinions on things. I took the original post a little bit beyond what it was originally, simply because I was interested and some other people got into the same discussion.

I didn't realise that wasn't allowed on here.
I guess you'd know better Sir, sorry if I broke your forum rules Sir.

The OP (that'd be you) was asking people to talk him out of buying a Sig guitar. I was talking about sig gear in general and my low opinion of it to "talk him out of it", although not in a serious way - if you want that guitar good luck to you. It's a cracker!
