7's are still being used a plenty, just thank god they are being used as
guitars instead of basses.
guys like Petrucci, Loomis, Broderick, Smythe, Andy James , Tony Mcalpine,
Vai, Dave Weiner, Tom Kopyto are all doing really cool stuff with them.
I've got 2, a Schecter Loomis sig, and a Carvin DC727, and I play those 2
more than I play my Jackson Sl2H or my GMW's these days. Even if I'm
playing 6 string stuff I'll use my Carvin because it's such a nice playing
guitar and I've got Bareknuckle pickups in it which totally kick ass.
Schecter has a few 7 string models out, but if you want a floyd
it's going to be the Loomis. (there is a hellraiser 7 with a floyd coming
though). the C-7 floyds are out but those are cheapo guitars.
Ibanez still has a couple of 7 string models besides the Universe
and you can get them with floyds or without.
Personally speaking my Carvin 7 is the best playing 7 I've come across
yet, hell it's one of the best playing guitars I've come across ...period,
6 or 7 strings.
As Ken stated head on over to
The guys over there are all cool and very helpful (lots of Jackson fans
over there too) Jackson would do well to put out a production model 7
string USA soloist with a floyd. they'd sell plenty of them.
I know if I had a 7 string version of my SL2H , I don't know if I'd even look any other 7 string guitars
These are my two : Loomis on the left (26.5 scale),
Carvin on the right.
They both sound great thru my JSX set up.
some good 7 string songs with some serious shredding in each one.
Dram Theater The Glass Prison live
live Nevermore "the River Dragon- with Broderick)
Andy James - "Devils Day" - off of his amazing CD)
Petrucci live "Jaws of Life" opening song from his G3 set
this one gets better as it goes along ("quality wise")
studio version
McAlpines new band "Devils Slingshot"
playing some cool Planet X live (nice guitar )
guitars instead of basses.
