    thanks for the input guys.

Yep Newc, I only care about playability and tone

I do like fat necks so there is no issue there. I'm leaning towards a Black LPC unless I can't pass up a nice flame top std

That's a '68 Reissue Custom Shop Flametop LPC. The color is "Triburst". The neck is sort of like a '59. Not the "Slim Taper" 60's neck. Not too thick, not too thin. Just perfect IMO. They make these on a Limited basis these days.

here's another shout for the faded standards; i'm quite a fan of them, myself. shawn, do you have a fret preference? standards use thin frets, customs are jumbo.

Oh man, I was lookin at a double cut at an online store in that same quilty root beer color last night. How does that thing play?

Has anyone bought any of those limited run Gibsons that they advertise at MF? I kinda miss having the diamond inlay exchanged for just simply a crown but it makes me wonder if the craftsmanship or care is pretty much the same on those 'store run' limiteds as a regular stock run or if it is more custom shop quality.

Sully, I like ebony boards and jumbos but really, if it feels good and sounds good I guess really have no preference I can play em big or medium just the same i supose. Some of the tops on the standards are really sweet and look killer in the vintage cb, sb, tb colors, thats why its hard to make up my mind

Bengal, that is a nice top on your LPC there. I normally don't see that nice of top on the customs that I've seen ...sweet one.

It's awesome airy, and light. A real pleasure to play after I lugged the heavier one's around. They come with 490's on the PUPS. My favs are '57 Classics, so I put those in. (not as Hot). Since the body is chambered, the solid body Les Paul low down tone is different. The reach is tight on the 24 frets. The new ones are 22 (DC Pro), which is plenty. If you want a 24 fret model, you'll have to look for a pre-2007.

You hit that desciption spot on with what I think about mine, except I stuck EMGs in mine.

My first axe was this 71... I picked up a 74 a few years later and it's been my main player since...They are both fretless wonders and sound great.

That is one of THE nicest Customs I have ever seen dude. Only a black custom with nickle hardware is cooler, and that purely from a John Sykes point of view. Oh wait....you have that too!

Thanks Chasbo. It's hard to photograph that one. It really looks much better in person. I can just sit there and look at it Yeah, the Sykes was a conversion that I posted a couple of months ago. Quite a project. Now, I just need a sunburst ES-335 like yours The gold top is the most recent aquisition and I bought a Jody Head, Dickey Betts signature guitar strap to go with it. Jody has some neat straps! Hand made by herself.

I like them both! The DC has an awesome Honey Burst finish. Or, is that a Faded Cherry? Either way it looks awesome! Hmm, EMG's? That's an idea.

I always thought it odd that there were all these great bursts and quilts and cool colors on the Standards, but you only had a choice of four colors on the higher end Customs, two of which are solid. Boring! Well, I found this baby not too long ago, it's my Custom from a limited run of only a dozen or so with a factory gold flame finish.

Shawn, they're pretty hard to find and try out in person but - if you can locate one - you should really try a GMP Pawnshop. The Deluxe models are where it's at. Killer stuff and, although prices have been going up, you can still find them in your price range.
