  • Random irrelevant ESP trem trivia

I have what I believe to be a late 90's ESP M-II that I won off of eBay a few years ago. The trem on it is a Kahler licensed Floyd that clearly has ESP branding on it. I managed to take a clear kickass picture of the trem, and thought I'd post it because it is interesting (only to me? ). It is very close to an OFR with the exception of the angled shape, which is almost like a Jackson trem. My questions are as follows:

    1) Does this trem have a name other than "ESP trem"?
    2) Is it a common trem?

My guess to #2 is no, the only generally available Kahler that is this close to an OFR AFAIK is the Steeler, which is discontinued (true?) and did not have the collared trem arm (booo!)

This trem has been a great performer for me and would kick ass for project guitars if they were readily available.

Is that the Kahler Spyder that was released right before Kahler Intl went tits up?

Nope, the spyder has a screw-in arm, says "Spyder" on it, and had different locking bolts

This is indeed a variant of the Steeler trem. The difference going from teh spyder to the steeler was reversing the pivot point from a screw head fulcrum to a kinfe edge like this one. You can still get parts for it on Kahler's website (spendy), but that's about the only place. Great old trem; most of the LFR's are hard to screw up once they're set up right. For all teh Kahlers a complete disassembly and lube with 3 in 1 oil does wonders for stabilty.

Great pic. My only suggestion is to not let your cat near your guitar or stop playing in the nude!
