What other problems usually come up? I've had two Deans, a '79 Series ML and an import DFH, neither of which had any problems in the time I owned them, so maybe I got lucky?

I dont want to get into a public display of Manufacture bashing...
But I will say, while I do like some of the Deans- They have all been inconsistant at best on QC; i.e. frets, neck buzzing, electronics, paint...

The 1st batch of the VMNT's I received I had to send ALL but 1 back due to QC issues or arriving with cracked necks, bothched paint work, and more...

Im little more optimistic on the Japanese and Usa lines tho.
We''l see how it goes on the Rusty Cooley models.
Im already WAY too far in the loop as to why THOSE guitars have been delayed so long....

How do the pups sound?

Pups sound pretty nice. They're the active versions of the JB and Jazz, and they are cool. A little more gain than the passive versions (and the low end is a little more present and a tiny bit tighter sounding than the passive JB), but still retaining the sound and characteristics of passive pickups without the compression of actives. This is a fun guitar to play!
