  • New OLD Gibson day

It seems melody makers gravitate my way.I was at RS guitarworks today to drop off my Charvel 375 body for some repairs and to check on my PRS refin in progress and landed a 59 Gibson Melody Maker granted its a beater but who cares its cool as hell.
Naked as in no parts but I have the parts to put it all back into shape.
Its been routed for a neck humbucker and the electronics cavity has been hogged out with a soup spoon so I will have Roy at RS route for a bridge hum and play the shit out of it.
Need to find a pickguard and I'll be set.
Cool thing its got a Brazillan rosewood fingerboard too I guess the finger board is worth more that the guitar.
    Really? well screw Mark Twain.

I had a chance to get an all original 59 about 8 years ago for $200. I passed because I didn't want to "molest" it by routing it out for a humbucker. That thing was kick ass. Friggin' HUGE neck for such a small guitar, I loved it...

Nice score man. Show us some pics... Oh wait, nevermind...
      I'm angry because you're stupid

i had a 61 melody maker that played like crazy. it was lighter than hell, too, which made me feel like i was gonna break it at any time. those single coils had some bite to them, for sure.

I'm going to try to find some old 57 classic pickups for it and go with a set of aged nickle pickup covers.I have a set of aged strip tuners as well. I have an aged tail lightweight piece and studs so I have a good start.
I do have a set of Jim Rolph pickups that may work.
