  • Ibeenhad (well and truly) rg470

Ok, does anyone have an idea of the value of these things, bought the guitar new in 1997, needed a guitar for uni, local dealer didn`t get back to me about a price for a Kelly, so wasn`t left with much option but to buy one `off the shelf`, the 470 was pretty much all they had in. Played it in the shop, and it just didn`t feel comfy for me but i figured i`d play into it, long story short, i didn`t. A week after i got it, i was considering selling it, but the drop in value was extreme, was offered £300 for it at the time and it cost me ~£450 so i kept it. Now i`m umming and ahhing about selling it again, need to make some space, too many guitars but how much do these things cost now?

Before i get flamed, this isn`t a `for sale ad`, and i`m not looking for PM`s ect, just want an idea of what i could be looking to expect to get for it SHOULD i decide to list it in the future. I`m still reluctant to sell due to the drop in value for whats essentially an as new guitar.

Guitar was one of the Korean 470`s from the Cort factory, damn near new still, no dings etc, literally hardly been played, lo-trs trem II, all stock.

Please no flaming, i`ll state again NOT looking for a sale!!!

    Thanks in advance.

    wibble,
It's MIK? If so, that will make it take a dive valuewise. Some of the older 470's were MIJ. But as for what you can get for it. Let's compair it to the 570. Mint 570's go in the $300 range. An Ibanez fan will take the 570 all day long because of the trem alone, Edge vs. Lo-TRS II. Ibanez fans HATE the TRS trem. It's not bad, but it's not an Edge...

So I would say, seeing as it's a MIK one, 200-250 for a mint one. Maybe $300 if you find someone who really wants one or if it's a "rare" color...

The trem is gonna kill you along with the MIK thing...

Yer i figured there`d be a huge price drop, hence why i`ve still got it 11 years later lol. As for colour yep its rare. Its black lol, rare as they come i mean how many black guitars are out there lol.

Thanks for the reply, guess it`ll be a keeper for another 90 years till i can fob it off as an antique lol?

        wibble,
Gotta love black, right? Well, you better if you're an Ibanez fan...

I would just keep it and play the shit out of it. They are not bad guitars, just not as desirable as their MIJ brothers. If the trem bothers you just block it or do an OFR swap, I "think" they are similar so you could swap between the two. I don't think an Edge will fit in there without some mods...

I think he'll be lucky to get $200 unless it is showroom, condition. I couldn't give away my Japanese made 2000 RG470 in Titanium Ice finish on Ebay, and any Japanese made 470 will kick the crap out of the Korean RG470 Ibanez model.

You would make more if you parted it out. I hate to see someone do that to a perfectly good guitar. But it's another way to go...

Can`t play the shit outta it, thats the problem. Theres nothing wrong with the guitar, set up well, no faults etc, it just doesn`t feel right. Previously had an NJ Mock (when they where still made in Japan) and that felt similair, can`t think how to descibe it, but kinda spongy. I played into that one ok. Went to a hardtailed Jackson V from there and that was just the dogs nads (still my favourite by a mile) but the wings where getting trashed at uni. So for my second year i got the Ibeenhad, basic super strat and one i wasn`t too concerned with getting dings. But i`ve not been able to adjust to it like i thought i might. Trems aren`t a prob, neither recessed or non-recessed, got a DK3 with recessed, plays fine and comfy, Warlocks with recessed, again no probs, Charvel mod 3 non recessed plays like a dream, but the Ibeenhad still feels wrong.

So, can`t play it, can`t sell it, not prepared to spend more cash on it to still not play it, and reluctant to part her out. Maybe i could nail 4 legs on it and use it as some kind of modern art coffee table or how about a paddle if i`m ever stranded at sea on a raft and just happen to have it with me lol?

Personally I think it's around the £200 mark without seeing it. You'll have to remember that the prices our American friends are giving you are not reflective of what you would pay in the UK for a guitar. They have access to many more than we have in this country. You can pick up Jap RGs for under £300 on ebay so if someone offers you £300 for it, personally I'd bite their hands off.

I know it's a cliché but it's worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Welcome to the world of the grown ups an depreciation. Just wait until you buy your first newish car!

Shit, at 36 i aint a grownup yet Now i got something to shoot back at our kids when they call me an old fogie lol.

Was offered £300 maybe 6-12 months after i purchased it, not a chance in that offer again. But ya, know all about depreciation hence why i`ve been reluctant to sell it in the past after paying full whack for it. Its a big drop to take for something thats almost new. Still i guess i learnt a valuable lesson from it, if it don`t feel right first go, it probably never will so put ya wallet away.
