Thanks! I thought that was probably the case, but there have been a lot of Gibson bashing threads lately, and except for a couple of SGs, I haven't played any newer Gibsons.

I like both, but the Gibson gets the nod. I also find the neck quite comfortable. I would not call it a baseball bat by any means. Now the JCF-01....THAT is a baseball bat.
      +1

I could not have said that any better. I love the look of the Kelly but Gibson got the balance right with the Explorer. I have owned easily a half dozen Explorers from the 70's 80's and 90's and the best ones were the early 09-91's that I have had. They were lighter and more resonant. The frets were dressed better from the early 90's too. I don't know who was doing them back then but they knew what they were doing. Does anyone else find this or is it just me?

The few jackson/ Charvel Explorers I have owned also balanced way better than the Kelly. Can anyone tell me how the King Kelly balances? Is it better than the smaller now standard Kelly size?

I don't think there's a guitar in my collection that's escaped some kind of mod. Pickups are very commonly replaced, and I've dropped some serious change on some obscure brands (Lace, Lawrence, Armstrong, APC, etc.). The fact that I kept the stock pickups on these should say something.

And yeah, they're pretty heavy. The main guitar I've been playing lately is a 2002 Epiphone Gothic Explorer (the one with the Floyd), and when I switched up to these Gibsons (a 2005 and a 2007) the weight difference was substantial.

Here is my Vintage White 1990 along with my 1981 V. The natural 1976 Explorer has been sold.
