Les Paul Std or a PRS Singlecut?

Not a big fan of either but, between the two, I'd go with the PRS. I prefer the looks of the Les Paul, esp. the bound neck & body. But, otherwise (playability, quality, etc), the typical PRS pretty much blows away most Gibsons.

+1 to the ESPs Eclipse IIs, though. That's a good alternative. They're a nice compromise between the looks of a LP and the QC & playability of the PRS. And, if you can live without binding at all, the Carvins are sure to be great players and tone machines.

The ESps have made me take a second look at a guitar I would have never dreamed of picking up. They are very well made with a very nice neck, +1 I don't think you would be disapointed. Resale on an ESp is not bad either.

Personally I want to try the new Carvin. It looks awesome and the price is a clincher.

Well here's what I got. I was about $400 more than I budgeted but it came with the artist package so I caved in. I played the a few Gibsons and a Singlecut Trem and the PRS was a much better player. The quality on the Gibsons I saw was pretty bad. The binding didn't look good on any of them and you could see remnants of glue around the edges. The Bullion gold LP Classic I tried out would stay in tune at all. Every bend took that sucker right out of tune. I tried another one and the intonation was off. Singlecut trem was much nicer and I really liked the coil-tapped tone knob.

Don't get a Les Paul, so that you can always wonder "would of, could of, should of".
