  • Fernandes?

I recently came accross a Fernandes guitar for sale. It looks almost exactly like a Charvel model 6, shark fin inlays, three mini toggle switches, pointy headstock etc.

I tried searching for some info about such a model but couldn't find anything. I doubt it's worth the 500€ the guy is asking for it but it was pink so I got intrigued by it

I have a mutt with a Fernandes neck on it and it's a great neck. Try talking him down some, but the bottom line is that it's worth what you feel it is. It may never have the resale value of a Model 6 but also may be just as nice of a guitar.

I had a FGZ. Reverse pointy headstock, sharkfins, dinky body. I thought it was a Jackson at first. Claser inspection showed it to be a Fernandes. I could not find one like it anywhere. I called Fernandes and they said it was made in the early 90s for the Japanese only market.

It had a 3 way blade switch and two mini switches that controlled the sustainer. Look to the far right and you'll it. The black guitar with the reverse headstock.

Fernandes did some really nice guitars in the late 80s, and some were dead-ringers for J/C models, and every bit as good players. I can't recall model numbers either, maybe it's an STJ-75 like this....

Wouldn't like to guess what the value would be on any of them now, can't figure out whether they were such brilliant guitars everyone still hangs on to them, or that they only sold a few hence the lack of used models about.

Fernandes also got into trouble over their products being sooooo similar to certain other makers' stuff, (they certainly got buggered for their Burny Fender/Gibson stuff,) so maybe they try to gloss over those days when they were maybe thought of as "copyists" rather than a guitar manufacturer with their own unique models and styles. Either that, or they were bought up by someone who had no rights/info/interest in their previous output, which is why info is so hard to find about them.

It certainly is strange that any manufacturer would airbrush products from their history like Fernandes have, even if they were quirky pieces of shit, they would deserve a "look what we used to make" section on their website. After all, it was those models in the mid to late 80s that brought the name to my attention (mainly through the white RR clone that twat from Shy(te) used to play). Why ignore them, unless they actually have no intellectual rights to them?
Numark CD players have the same problem, due to a fire in their old HQ. All the paperwork, history etc was destroyed, allegedly, and the company called Numark now has absolutely no clue or connection with Numark prior to about 6 years ago, so can't help with service diagrams or even what components went into them, they only have records and rights to the stuff they made since they bought the name and "re-launched".

BTW, If anyone has the King V or the RR clones (think the last one was a JS-90) they did, my balls ache for them, so sell to me!
So I woke up,rolled over and who was lying next to me? Only Bonnie Langford!

        I nearly broke her back

Some of those old Fernandes were killer guitars. Didnt Dave Navarro play one of those Fender head strat copies for a while?

Yep, that's the one. Good looking guitar but the price is a bit too high for me so I'll leave it. I don't know how popular pink axes are. Maybe it'll sit for a few months and the price will go down

Did you try offering him less than the asking price? Or is that a faux pas in your area? all he can do is say no. Just tell him that Fernandes is an "off-brand" for that kind of guitar and that it's just a copy of a Model 6, thus not worth as much as a real one.

Again, all he can do is say no, and he might agree to your price. You don't want to meet someone in a week who has that guitar and paid 300 for it because they made an offer, do you?

+1 offer low and meet in the middle.
Pink guitars are cool IMO and many others around here.

I had a pawn shop Fernandez that i molded and modded to fit me just perfect, it was my main player for 10 years, most favorite guitar i ever owned, and cost like 89$, put some pickups, and shaped the neck a bit.
Played it till the frets were gone
