I read that as "when ive made bodies to suit prestige necks, ive had to widen the neck pocket to suit the neck. I make necks that are 57mm wide. If I normally have to widen neck pockets to suit prestiges, and you have a prestige, there will be a gap, because I only make necks that are 57mm wide.

Of course, the photo was to show you the pocket was loose, even for a prestige. Thats my take on it anyway.

Without knowing the luthier, or even what he claims to be able to build, he does state his standard necks are all 57mm. Sure, the neck pocket is sloppy and that sux, but is it his fault, if he only makes 57mm wide necks, and your prestige obviously has a wider neck pocket?

Not all luthiers are 'custom builders', like they advertise. In fact, most aren't. Sounds like this guy builds Ibanez replacement parts, with some custom options. Maybe i'm wrong.

To have made a neck to suit that pocket, would mean it had a change in taper to suit. If you looked down the neck, it would appear to be warped (or, at least to some people who didnt understand why it was like that). Ive had to do this before to suit a guitar with a dodgy neck pocket, because the client would rather that, than a gap. I would have preferred to recut the neck joint, AND make a wider neck, but the client wanted the body to remain original (so i wrote a note on the neck hidden by the neck join to explain why it looked funny... incase anyone in the future decided to 'fix it'). Of course, I dont just make necks that are all specifically 57mm... that is what seems to be the main problem, plus a dodgy ibanez neck joint.

Note to Self-- Dont use ormsbyguitars.com

He also said to SEND THE BODY SO HE COULD GET IT RIGHT!!!!!!! Yes he said his standard necks are blah blah blah but he also said send the body. Dude you missed reading that part I hope because if you think that what he said about the standard neck sizes justifies his crap neck job then youre not a good businessman either. :ROTF:

Im sorry but if you have the body before you start building the neck and choose NOT to use the neck pocket as a template then you suck as a luthier.....

Dude have the guy build you a new neck or fill the pocket and re cut of course at no charge..

Mate, im offering a difference of opinion. How does this make me a bad businessman? Dont judge my work, on a comment about another luthier, who builds cookie cutter parts.
        Seriously... read the emails.
He clearly stated in the emails, he builds to 57mm. I dont see anywhere, where he has suggested he would build a neck to suit a dodgy pocket. I did read that he has had to modify neck pockets to make them LARGER to suit some ibanez made necks. Maybe there are more in emails we havent seen?
Gemini, did you think thats what he meant? EG: make the neck to suit a dodgy pocket? Of course not, no-one but the ebay seller knew about the dodgy pocket...

Definetly a note to self about ormsby guitars. NEVER USE..

You obviously cant read either. I will show you where he said send the body and he will make it fit. I will make it big so you can read it too.

Big ole loud letters too. I hope this explains my point because if it doesnt then you are a lost cause. He asked the man to measure it for him and if he couldnt just send the body so he could FIT IT ..... Come on now admit you were wrong so I can change my mind about you. Please. To anyone else who has a problem reading what was said about send the body so he could fit the neck to it SEE MY SIGNATURE !!!!!!!!

Good news Jeff! Communication is the key! so easy to MIS communicate, but also easy to work it out if each party trusts that the other has good intent! Keep up posted!

you bet. Chris is a fairly young guy, but you have to root for the guy. He's got some great ideas and if you go to his website, you can see some of the innovation and ideas he is offering. Right now he is a one man shop, with lots of work, but I really hope things go well for him. We spent 20+ mins on the phone yapping over what I would consider "a small order" on his behalf!

                      Check it out

part of the problem might be that Chris doesn't have his CNC programmed to do anything but 57mm heels ..without having to write a whole new program (which is pretty time consuming) ...

but give him a chance, it sounds like he's going to to make it right
