The only way for that guitar to be uglier is if it was a Dean.

All this talk about custom PRS's made me post this. My Custom Built PRS.

A fuckin' shredders dream. Private Stock Mahogany picked by Paul himself. Factory equiped EMG's. 1 volume and a 3 way blade selector. Brazillian Mahogany fretboard. Totally Custom Neck Carve, more like an older San Dimas Charvel. Total Custom Jobbie.

I love this bridge that PRS sometimes uses. Fully intonatable and a wraparound too.

PRS makes some of the best instruments out there.

                  Bengal,
You have that made? I heard that Private stock PRS were fairly pricey. Can you give an Idea what it ran you?

Or more likely he stole it.

Actually MarkD got it right and so did shobet. I traded Jim Root my first born son to change strings for him while on tour.

No, I actually traded a minty fresh 1982 Gibson ES335 for it so I might have "stole it" as shobet said! It was Jims. I told him all along I wanted one of his PRS's and when he went to Charvel he sold most of his PRS's. But he saved this one for me. Out of all his PRS's I liked this one best. Well, this one and a Ruby Red one he still has. He wouldn't trade me that one. That one was his favorite.

As for what it cost? I have no idea. I don't think PRS takes pure custom orders from the pubic. I could be wrong on that. But if they do, I'm sure they charge big bank for it.

The thing I love about it is the neck carve. They asked Jim what he wanted, Wide/Fat or Wide/Thin. He said neither. He wanted a neck carve like the old San Dimas Charvels. Paul himself said he had some in his collection and they would pattern the neck after one of his. Is it exactly like a San Dimas? Not really. But it's close.

Here's a shot of the back of the headstock.

Here's the guitar I traded to him. The best 335 I've ever owned. This one was nice and it had Shaw Pickups. Pretty sweet, but I think I like the PRS better.

I can tell you where the snakeskin guitar came from.

Back around '89, Ted was playing a local music show expo that was put on by a local music store in Waco, TX (yes, where Ted now lives). The owner was/is friends with Ted. At the time he was a PRS dealer, as well as Jackson, Charvel, and Hamer. He had the snakeskin guitar built to give to Ted at the expo.

My band got to open for Ted (first of three opening acts...haha).

I actually got to play that guitar for about 10 seconds a few days before they gave it to Ted.

Hey that's pretty awesome. Did PRS do a bang-up job on the snakeskin? They look cheesy when they aren't done well.

From what I remember is looked very cool. I've got a picture somewhere of Ted holding the guitar when it was presented to him. He was standing next to his wife Shemane, who was pregnant at the time.
