I bought a Gibby Flying V last week and it arrived today. I also bought an Epi hard case for it. It's sitting in the box acclimating. I need to wait a couple more hours before cracking it open. Then I'll give it a few more hours out of the box before pissing w/it. It's killing me. Like knowing what's inside the wrapped present on Christmas eve but can't/shouldn't open it and play w/it until Christmas day. It could be perfect. It could be less than perfect. It could be a return waiting to happen. The suspense is almost unbearable.

Sounds like when ya see a nice pair of boobies at the store. You know whats under that blouse of hers. Buy you cant touch. You can stare. You can glance, you can imagine how they feel. But you cant open that blouse and have a peek. Or a quick touch. and its driving you maaaad.
Is it alot like that? Or is it just me?

It's a LOT like that, only worse. I like boobs just fine. They're fine n dandy sweet as candy. BUT I'm an ass man. It's like looking at a fine, high hung, well rounded table top booty. You do know what it is and you imagine what the goodie box will be like.... 'cause you've had more than a few before and seen many more than that. But ya still wanna spank it and bump your uglies all up on/in it.
So yeah, it's a LOT like that!In an insane world, only the sane seem crazy.

Yeah Yeah, I Know! Gotta have the pron. It's coming. I promise. I have a fairly new digi cam (xmas) and some free time Friday or Sat. Pics WILL be posted. Just don't get all 'cited 'cause it's the bottom line V. I got the faded - worn cherry. I don't care for nitro finishes (until they're broken in) and the price was right on this one. $674 + some change including the Epi hsc.
I broke it in today. Had my step son (drummer) a base player and another guitarist over earlier. It's a little stiff (or i am). But it cuts like a mofo. Killer tone and loud as hell. Maybe the lack of finish on it? OH! It weights like nothing. If I can get use to the TOM + Stop Tail I may be in love. Haven't gotten along well w/that setup in the past. It's been many years. So far it's slowing me down quite a bit.
Yeah Yeah, blah blah blah bla bla blah blah... Pics OTW>
P.S. Hey fett - check your PM's will ya? I got sumfin for ya, maybe. In an insane world, only the sane seem crazy.

HEY! Thanks for that info. The neck was getting pretty messy in my palms after about an hour or so. The back of the neck that is. It did feel like a new nitro neck, just a lot messier. Anyhoooo, I didn't know that. Now I do. And now I know why. Thanks again! In an insane world, only the sane seem crazy.

Congrats! Vs rock. I've got a faded/worn cherry LP Studio that I really like. The nitro matte satin finish is cool, but it will get a little shiny over time from rubbing your arm and hand on it, especially the neck.I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.

Yes. The V3 has simplified my overall setups. As much as I love my ZOOM G9.2t, it's use is strictly in the loop (delay, chorus, reverb) for most of my needs/uses. I still use the ZOOM for recording scratch pad stuff and noodling. But V3's tone is good-excellent to my ears w/o anything. Or much of anything. The Gibby V sounds great w/it.
Only negs I have w/the V so far are pretty typical and minimal. Especially for the price. As is commonly mentioned, the fret edges are a bit sharp. I can take care of that. Though I'd have preferred not to. I REALLY wish it had taller frets. That's personal preference though. I'll get over it and it will make me practice more. Which I admittedly don't do well or often enough. Too "busy" noodling, writing, and working w/the kids on their music projects.
Anyhooo, so far I like it a lot. I can see me adding another Gibby V and definitely an SG Standard to my small stable. In an insane world, only the sane seem crazy.

I love the tone of my V3, the two gain channels have a lot of sonic options.
and the badass Marshall is in there.
and yeah rough fret edges seem to be par for the course with the faded Gibson V's. I trust you got a good one, cause some of these are "Friday afternoon at the factory" guitars, there are some real dogs. then again some are quite nice. you have to play them to know.Last edited by skorb; 04-08-2008, 04:45 PM.the guitar players look damaged - they've been outcasts all their lives

It seems I did get a good one from what I can tell. After the (endless) wait acclimating it, the first thing I inspected was the neck. Ignored the finish, paint, etc. Neck was dead straight w/no fret buzz, action a tad high for my tastes. I then looked over the rest before giving it a basic setup. Added a little relief in the neck and lowered the action. No fret buzz anywhere.
As far as looks, I could get nit picky about the few long, light streaks of color on the rosewood fret board. And the board was definitely on the dry side. A little bore oil took care of that. It is fine. I feel fortunate. I've heard some horror stories. I take those w/a grain of salt-Those posted online. Some are legit, I'm sure. But there's always those who hate a particular brand w/too much time on their hands. They will post negs on something they've never actually seen in person, much less own or have played.
The V3 definitely has the nasty ass (in a good way) Marshall tones in it. And the clean channel is above average in my opinion (to my ears). It's the first amp I've owned in many years that I am happy using w/minimal to no pedals or effects. Talk about getting the most bang for your buck!
The Faded V is certainly no Custom Shop Gibby item. It is what it is and I really like it. The V3 makes me even more happy. It's not a one trick pony. I really like it a lot as well. Though I understand it's no Rivera K-Tre. Which will probably be my next head purchase. In an insane world, only the sane seem crazy.
