I do agree the monkey grip is kinda pointless - I mean, it's a Strat-shape - wtf do you think the top horn is there for? Or the neck/body joint?
And yes, it was stated quite clearly that acoustic instruments were not part of this discussion. Even so, since they were brought up, the highly sound-reflective nature of ebony makes it perfect for Classical instruments such as guitar, lute, and violin which need to project with minimal electronic amplification. They also must have a sharp tone so as not to mush the notes as the sound waves reach the back of the room. Remember also that nylon strings have a much more mellow tone than steel electric guitar strings, even on metal frets.
Let's clarify this discussion a bit further, before another point is brought up:
For fretted solidbody electric guitars and basses, the fretboard has no effect on the amplified tone other than how it handles the vibration of the fretted string.
On fretless solidbody electric guitars and basses, you would want a dense fretboard wood like ebony so that the vibration of the fingered note is not dispersed or absorbed by the fretboard.
Back to the original topic: I was bidding on that Pink JEM but it appears to have faded considerably, so I lowered my max bid and let it go. It only went for $800 but if I'm going to get one it's going to have to be Budman PinkI want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

That's hilarious
I might do a Bowling Ball mod - 3 holes spaced like a bowling ball in the arm restI want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

I like the monkey grip. It makes it easier to carry 2 JEM's at once! Just watch out for the necks!
It's unique, so when I play my JEM's, that's how I carry them. Just like SteveTone is like Art: Your opinion is valid. Listen, learn, have fun, draw your own conclusions.

HA. Seriously, I did like the visual of the old Monkey Grip better. Was more sleek without the finger cutouts and whatnot.I'm angry because you're stupid
