I'm thinking of getting one too. I realy like the black one but never owned a guitar
with a all maple neck. You think that the maple neck would be much brighter then
    the ebony neck one?

Nah - I find ebony to be pretty bright too.

Mine just came in today. I'll post pics & notes in a few days.

I wish the pictures could show how HEAVY this thing is - both in WEIGHT and tone! I've never had a Les Paul this heavy.

Does it have any of the traditional Tele snap or does the mahogany make it sound completely different?
Fwopping, you know you want to!

Beyond the shape, there is NOTHING Tele about this guitar.

These don't sound like Tele's at all. It's a Tele in shape alone.

EDIT: Chris beat me to it!

I know Jim feels most of the good sound comes from the thin satin finish. He has most of his guitars done in that satin finish. Makes it ring better he thinks, and I agree.

                      I'm on board.

Next time you see him, tell him I'm pretty blown away! I could do without the EMG's, but I can live with them. (But why an 81/89???) Let him know I'm looking for a second one, and once it happens, you'll be tracking him down...

It's an 81/60 in these. I LOVE the EMG 60 for a neck pickup. A bit more lively and warm than the 81 or 85/89.

But some nice passives would sound killer in one of these too.

I'll mention to him that you're a fan. He'll like to hear that.

I have two of my les pauls set up 81/89, all the 89 is is a coil tappable 81, i believe.. I like how it sounds, but the coiltap takes away a lot of volume. Just added a push-pull for the neck volume knob.
Its a complete catastrophe. But Im a professional, I can rise above it. LOL

D'OH!!! That's what I meant - put the mind in gear before the mouth... I'd rather have the 85 in it somewhere, but that's just me, and even with that, I don't know that it would be "perfect". I'm really a passive guy, but I think it would just ruin the "vibe" of the guitar. I'll leave it alone.

I'm just blown away that he's out of Iowa... That in and of itself ups the "fan quotient". I think we're about the same age too - I'm 36.

throw some J80Cs in there. That'll give you passives and maintain the aesthetic of the guitar.

Looks very cool, btw. Glad to hear it plays as good as it looks.
