Finally replaced the shot battery on my camera, and got out of the house this morning to snap some shots of this beauty.
Anyway, I'd been feeling like getting an LP again for some time, but was usually discouraged by the high price of the real ones, and the big chunky neck joint. Not to mention various accounts of fluctuating QC.
However this one was quite well priced so I thought I'd give it a go... All I can say is, wow! I'm glad I did, it's amazing
Just a peek at the top half
Now the bottom...
Matched plain maple top, you can barely see the seam in that pic, but it's there!
How bout the whole thing?!
Now the rear shot
That looks like good, wholesome real mahogany to me
Only spoiler for me is the inlays are 'loid, but I think it looks pretty sweet overall.
Mini review:
First of all, tiny frets. Fretless wonder style. Fret binding as well. Very cool. Quite different for me, but I'm getting used to the small frets.
Plays awesome. Neck is not too chunky, very good fit for my small hands. Fretboard appears to be ebony, but it could be very nice darkened rosewood, I'm not entirely sure.
From my research the pickups are the Burny "VH1"s which are quite renowned among Jap LP collectors. For my tastes the bridge pickup is a bit meh, I may swap it out although it's performing decently at the moment, but the neck pickup is amazing - fat, warm, everything you'd expect from the neck pickup of a real LP!
I want more... Now on the hunt for an early 80s one, with the correct split diamond inlay. Apparently those cost quite a pretty penny though Hell even these slightly later era ones go for around $700USD or suchlike on the Tokai Forums.
