  • Putting in the order for my next Mammoth Custom!

Specs are PRETTY much the same as my first one (which plays incredible by the way):

    Body: Solid Mahogany Neck-Thru
Top: Arch Top - White Ash
    Color: Red and Black stain
    Neck Dimensions: 3rd Fret: .790", 12th Fret: .850"
    Tuning Machines: Grover Imperial (Black)
    Fingerboard: Ebony
    Inlays: Mother Of Pearl "Tusks"
No. of Frets: 24 Jumbo Frets
    Binding: Ivoroid - Neck Only
Bridge Pickup: Seymour Duncan SH-5 Duncan Custom Humbucking Pickup
Neck Pickup: Seymour Duncan TB-10 Full Shred Humbucking Pickup
    Controls: Recessed Master Volume
    Bridge: Schaller TOM (Black)
Pickup Switching: Recessed 3 way toggle
    Position 1: Bridge Pickup
Position 2: Bridge and Neck Pickup
    Position 3: Neck Pickup
    Hardware: Black
    Strings: .009 to .042
    Scale Length: 25.5"
    Width at Nut: 1-11/16"
Compound (12" to 16") Fingerboard Radius
    CTS Pots and Switchcraft Switches

Here is a mock up I did of the shape. I Started with the Carvin Ultra V, but took the short wing off and duplicated the longer on up top. The headstock will be slightly different as well (but not radically different) I just can't get a good pic of Mammoth's 3 per side so I embelished a bit. It's similar to the BC Rich Widow headstock.

Also, I am going with a Schaller Fixed Bridge and not a Floyd. Below is a sample of the finish I am going to use as well:

The neck will be a satin finish again.

Thanks. His schedule is pretty light right now so hopefully the turnaround won't be too bad. The last on was about 5 months or so.

That thing is going to look killer, especially with the ash top and red finish. It'll be nice to see the end product.

Thanks. I'll post pics along the way like last time.

Yeah, as soon as I saw it I knew I wanted a finish like that on something. Apparently you stain the guitar with a dark black a few times over, then sand it down to natural (the black stays in either the soft or hard part of the grain) then stain it again with color.

IMO... that last headstock should be on your custom! I think the dropping
sharp point would be better with the V? But hey... im a nut! Enjoy !!

Yeah, I thought about it, but for some reason, without the floyd it seems like the more traditional 3 per side setup seems more appropriate. In November I can order 2 more. I am doing a 27 fret rhoads/alexi bastardization and another king V with a floyd and same reverse headstock as my other Mammoth you mentioned.

How about a Dan Armstrong headstock?
Might look good on the V.

I'm not familiar. I will investigate.
