  • 1991 Rg550 Miiine!!

ok i have been had. shocking. i've never really been an ibanez fan, but couldn't refuse this offer, and it was definately worth it. i traded it straight for my rr24 as i was in need of something alot more versatile and strat-ish. thanks to James (Mazrim) - big props there - great guy lovely family

Anyway, it still has the original edge treme, comes with a dimarzio evolution in the bridge, a kent armstrong rails in the middle, and another dimarzio in the neck ithink he said it was an x2n or a tonezone i'm not sure. its kinda fat but thin at the same time..slightly strat-ish. the evolution is pretty hi gain but very focused at the same time, there is a lot of clarity which is good, and in fact certain riffs that have normally sounded a bit messy now sound great and very focused. the body is near mint and a really awesome neon yellow virtually, officially its desert yellow, but i tell ya its a bloody trippy desert the neck has MOJO, serious mojo... whoever has owned it before has obviously sweated alot and corroded the lacquer off, but you can't feel the dirt, just see it. the neck plays like butter. nice and wide like my old chgarvel; model series but flatter and the back, and that rally seems to have made a noticeable difference to me, it suits my hand better, and all of a sudden my legato really great. string tension feels better than my floyded guitars that i've had over the years. floyded models have never really as nice for me.

i may clean the fretboard up i don't know, i sorta like the reliced look, but maybe it doesn't quite go when the body is pristine...

Good score! Those things are flying machines - even I was able to play quick on mine.
That's not an X2N in the neck, they have big bar magnets.
All you need now are some brightly coloured knobs, and you're good to go!

Glad you're pleased Alex. *sniff* I'll miss this axe. I'm glad somebody is going to use it onstage where it deserves to be.

Thats a DiMarzio "Humbucker from Hell" in the neck position by the way. A real smoky blues pup if ever there was one.

Like Alex said, I planned to clean the neck up when I bought it but you get...I dont know.... attached to it somehow. Like its part of its character or something.

The RR24 is fucking ace by the way.
All men play on 10. Never gonna turn down again.

Are you sure that's a 91 as I thought they all had matching headstocks?

Stop winding the poor boy up! It could be an earlier one. Has it still got the serial no. sticker on the back of the headstock?

You traded an RR24 for that? Wow. I don't think I'd do that. Wait, I KNOW I wouldn't have done that.

Maybe 550s are more rare in England. Over here they are not hard to find and one in that shape would fetch about $200 here. Maybe $250 with the pickups but I doubt it. Not with a board that dirty.

But if you are happy, that's all that matters.

EDIT: If you can't tell I'm in my "I dislike Ibanez" phase. It comes and goes.
                        I'm angry because you're stupid

put it this way- its a classic guitar. It looks great. Its in fantastic condition apart from a bit of dirt on the neck and only a bit of lighter fluid away from looking swish again. I have 200 quids of pickups thrown in. It sounds better than my rr 24 and plays way better than any guitar i've ever played. Its also far easier to carry around than my jackson..

All very fair points. I see where you are coming from.

And it seems like I come off as a douche sometimes. Sorry about that. I'm not trying to piss on your trade.

I look at it from an Iowa standpoint. What does Guitar A go for, what does Guitar B go for. How much can I sell Guitar A for if I trade for it. Those kinds of things.

I didn't look at it in a playability/portability/coolability way. For someone who gigs like yourself, that's exactly what you are thinking of.

And I was a bit low in what it would sell for here in the states. More in the $300-500 area, depending on how bad someone wanted it.

I do love DY's though. And 550's with dirty boards do look cool. I won't use that overused, very very lame term that you did but we are in the same ballpark.

What the fuck is a quid?

Kidding, I know it's some kind of fish.

                              Fujigen.

@Bengal - they're a little rarer over this side of the pond than they are in the US from experience. Prices fluctuate quite a bit.

@Alex - I think if you're happy with it then who cares if you got a fair deal or not.
